JOB DESCRIPTION
Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. Serving 33 member districts and reaching additional communities statewide, CREC supports approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional learning and coaching for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools. Additionally, CREC provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, while also delivering programs that help adults build real, job-ready skills.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Support Staff Coordinator plays a critical role in the daily operations of River Street School (RSS) given their direct responsibility for mentoring, training, coaching, and assisting leadership with oversight of Paraeducators, Associate Instructors, and other assigned support staff in collaboration with the RSS leadership team as well as other clinical, educational, and support staff. Working closely with the Program Director, Assistant Directors, and/or other designees, the Support Staff Coordinator helps ensure high-quality educational and behavioral programming for students with complex profiles, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and related disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program & Administrative Leadership
In collaboration with leadership, develop, implement, monitor, and refine (when necessary) systems for effective support staff deployment/scheduling, mentorship, training, oversight (supportive and corrective feedback), and evaluation.
Actively supports leadership in organizing, scheduling and contributing to 30, 60, & 90 day reviews.
Student Instruction & Support
Collaborate with instructional and clinical teams as well as educational consultants to actively support evidence-based training of paraeducators and other staff to implement instructional strategies, behavior support plans, and other interventions.
Participate in select PPT meetings, treatment team meetings, and student case reviews, as designated by leadership.
In collaboration with leadership and classroom team members, assist in overseeing paraeducators in implementing programming aligned with student IEPs and therapeutic goals, including the day-to-day provision of performance management and feedback, including supportive and corrective feedback.
Professional Development & Career Growth
In collaboration with leadership, facilitate mentorship and support meetings, training, peer coaching, and/or learning communities to support paraeducator skill-building.
In collaboration with leadership, identify, design and promote career pathways, including advancement into teaching, behavior analysis, or special education roles.
Conduct regular mentorship meetings with assigned paraeducators and other staff to facilitate understanding of staff needs, challenges, concerns, and professional goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five or more years of related experience as a teacher, paraeducator, ABAI, clinician (BCBA, etc), or other direct service provider working within a school or related setting
Minimum of 5 years working with students with ASD or other disabilities
Minimum of 5 years of working within a training and/or supervisory position strongly preferred
Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and its application in educational settings strongly preferred
Basic understanding of special education law as well as best practices in instructional approaches and interventions for students with autism and related disabilities
Comprehensive and detailed understanding of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between CREC and Local 3194 of Council 4 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO (i.e., Associate Instructor and paraeducator union).
Certification as a BCBA or BCaBA strongly preferred

Ability to pass a two-day Safety Care training program without restrictions
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide transportation to job sites, meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities as required.
