Surface Pattern Designer

Job Overview
The Surface Pattern Designer will play a key role in expanding Leftbank Art’s pattern and wallpaper offerings. This position focuses on developing original, repeatable designs across various styles and color palettes that translate beautifully into wallpaper, fabric, and other decorative applications.

The ideal candidate combines artistic creativity with technical precision in pattern development, color separations, and print production. They bring a strong understanding of surface design principles, trend awareness, and interior design sensibility, ensuring each collection feels both innovative and commercially relevant.

Key Responsibilities

Pattern Design & Development

• Create seamless repeat patterns for wallpaper, textiles, and other surface applications.
• Translate design direction and mood boards into pattern concepts that align with seasonal trends.
• Prepare print-ready artwork files for production, ensuring technical accuracy and scalability.
• Maintain a strong understanding of color theory, texture, and pattern balance to create cohesive collections.
• Generate mockups and room visualizations to demonstrate pattern applications in real spaces.

Trend Research & Concept Development

• Research color, material, and interior trends to inspire new collections.
• Partner with the Creative and Product Development teams to define the look and feel for upcoming wallpaper lines.
• Develop and present trend boards, pattern studies, and visual references to support seasonal design direction.

Collaboration & Workflow

• Work closely with the Creative Manager and Design Team to align new pattern designs with broader product assortments.
• Communicate effectively with production and digital printing teams to ensure accurate execution of designs.
• Maintain organized archives of patterns, ensuring proper documentation and version control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Surface Pattern Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or related field.
• 2–4 years of professional experience in wallpaper, textile, or surface design (home décor industry preferred).
• Expert proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; knowledge of CAD textile software a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to create repeat patterns with a strong sense of composition and color.
• Understanding of printing techniques, color matching, and scale considerations.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced creative environment.
• Familiarity with interior design principles and the home décor market is highly valued.
