Surface Preparation Technician

Kazmeh Engineering Specialties Company is seeking a Surface Preparation Technician to perform critical preparatory work on concrete and steel surfaces prior to the application of specialized coatings and systems. This role is responsible for operating equipment and using techniques to achieve specified surface profiles required for waterproofing, epoxy flooring, and anti-corrosion applications. The position reports to the Site Supervisor or Lead Application Technician.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare concrete and steel surfaces using methods such as shot blasting, scarifying, grinding, and mechanical scabbling.
• Operate and maintain surface preparation equipment, including blast pots, shot blasters, grinders, and scarifiers.
• Follow project specifications to achieve the required surface profile (CSP/SSPC standards) and cleanliness.
• Perform surface cleaning duties, including vacuuming, sweeping, and air blasting to remove contaminants and debris.
• Assist in the application of primers and coatings immediately following surface preparation.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols when operating equipment and handling abrasive materials.
• Complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance tasks.
• Work collaboratively with application technicians to ensure efficient workflow.
• Document work completed and report any issues to the supervisor.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a Surface Preparation Technician, Blaster, or in a similar role within industrial painting, flooring, or corrosion control.
• Knowledge of surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ICRI) and methods.
• Ability to operate heavy surface preparation machinery and hand tools.
• Understanding of the safety hazards associated with abrasive blasting and mechanical preparation.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy equipment (up to 25 kg), and work in various environmental conditions.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Relevant safety certifications (e.g., for abrasive blasting, confined space, fall protection) are a strong advantage.

Pay: KD600.000 - KD800.000 per month
