- The primary responsibility is to provide timely surgical evaluation and intervention for patients presenting to the ED or already admitted with urgent surgical needs.
- Surgicalists manage the patient's entire surgical care continuum from admission through post-operative care and discharge, which may include follow-up in clinic.
- Work closely and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including ED physicians, hospitalists, anesthesiologists, nurses, physician assistants, and surgical technologists, to ensure seamless patient care and smooth handoffs.
- Surgicalists focus on implementing evidence-based protocols to streamline patient care processes, reduce patient wait times for surgery, and decrease the length of hospital stays.
- Participate in data-driven quality improvement practices, serve on hospital committees, and help ensure high-quality clinical outcomes.
- Readily available for consultations with other hospitalists and medical staff, providing guidance even when surgery might not be immediately necessary, improving overall diagnostic and care coordination.
- 24 hour shifts; 10 shifts a month
