The Sustainability & Clean Energy Leader is a pivotal strategic role designed to spearhead the organization’s transition toward net-zero operations and renewable energy integration. In alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030, this leader will oversee the implementation of decarbonization strategies, manage clean energy procurement, and ensure the organization meets evolving ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards. You will act as the primary architect of the company’s green transformation, balancing operational efficiency with environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clean Energy Strategy & Integration
- Lead the assessment and deployment of renewable energy solutions, including Solar PV, Green Hydrogen, and Energy Storage Systems.
- Develop and manage the transition roadmap from fossil-fuel dependency to decentralized, clean energy microgrids.
- Evaluate energy efficiency across facilities and implement IoT-driven monitoring to reduce the organization’s carbon footprint.
2. ESG & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all operations align with Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE).
- Oversee the preparation of annual sustainability reports in accordance with GRI, SASB, or TCFD frameworks.
- Monitor global and local regulatory changes to ensure proactive compliance with carbon taxing and emission limits.
3. Decarbonization & Circularity
- Design and execute Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) feasibility studies or carbon offset programs.
- Promote circular economy principles within the supply chain, focusing on waste-to-energy and sustainable procurement.
- Conduct lifecycle assessments (LCA) for products or services to identify and mitigate high-emission "hotspots."
4. Stakeholder Advocacy & Leadership
- Serve as the internal and external spokesperson for the company’s sustainability mission.
- Partner with government bodies (e.g., Ministry of Environment, Kahramaa) to secure grants, incentives, or partnerships for clean energy projects.
- Drive a culture of "Sustainability First" by training employees and leadership on climate-positive business practices.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 12+ years in Sustainability, Renewable Energy, or Environmental Engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity within the Middle East or energy-intensive industries.
- Education: Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Sustainability.
- Certifications: LEED AP, WELL AP, CEM (Certified Energy Manager), or GRI Professional certification is highly desirable.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Deep understanding of Photovoltaic (PV) systems and energy modeling software.
- Expertise in carbon accounting and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
- Strategic Influence: Proven ability to influence C-suite executives and manage multi-million QAR capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets for green projects.
- Language: Native or professional fluency in English; Arabic proficiency is an advantage for navigating local government relations.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Carbon Reduction: Percentage reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
- Energy Mix: Ratio of renewable vs. non-renewable energy consumption.
- Compliance: Successful achievement of green certifications (e.g., GSAS or LEED) for organizational assets.
- ROI: Financial savings achieved through energy efficiency and waste reduction initiatives.
