JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will protect the public health and the environment through appropriate and consistent application of federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and current waste management technology. Please note this position follows a hybrid work schedule to include both in-office and telework. Candidates must be able to work from the assigned work location in Virginia.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will be primarily responsible for:

Conducting regular evaluations of waste management facilities, compiling and analyzing data required by facility operation permits, and responding to and investigating reports of improper waste management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of fundamental principles of environmental science or engineering, including chemistry, geology, and waste management techniques.
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, and skills in conducting inspections/investigations.
  • Skills in screening, organizing, and analyzing data, interpreting and assessing environmental impacts, and communicating regulations and procedures.
  • Computer skills in word processing and database applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, prepare and present technical reports to diverse groups, make independent and sound decisions, work without close supervision, and to resolve problems independently and as a team.
  • Combination of education, training, and/or work experience in environmental or chemical engineering, environmental science.
  • This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
  • A Real ID or U.S. passport is required to access certain facilities.
  • Must complete the 24 Hour HazWOPER, or ability to obtain.
  • Must complete or provide certification of previous completion of the National Incident Management (NIMS) courses: ICS 100, 200, 700.
