Role: Architect/Engineer (Data Center SME) Senior-Level

Position Summary:The Architect/Engineer (Data Center Subject Matter Expert) provides advanced technical leadership and engineering expertise to support the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) modernization of mission-critical health IT systems and data centers that sustain care delivery for millions of beneficiaries. This role will support the design, integration, and modernization of secure, resilient, and efficient data center infrastructure across hybrid and on-premises environments. The SME ensures all solutions align with DoD strategy, compliance, and health-based technologies that enhance resiliency, sustainability, operational readiness., and DHA enterprise architecture objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and engineering of DHA data center architectures, including compute, storage, network, and facility systems.
• Develop and maintain technical standards, reference architectures, and documentation supporting DHA modernization initiatives.
• Conduct site assessments, capacity planning, and optimization for performance, scalability, and redundancy.
• Provide expert technical guidance on data center consolidation, cloud integration, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, operations, and program teams to ensure compliance with DoD and DHA policies (e.g., RMF, DISA STIGs, NIST).
• Support the development of technical documentation, engineering playbooks, and architecture diagrams (e.g., AV-2, SV-1, RMF boundary maps).
• Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance mission readiness, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
• Support planning and execution of migrations and lifecycle upgrades within approved architectures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline (Master’s preferred).
• 10+ years of experience in data center architecture, design, or engineering within federal or DoD environments.
• Strong understanding of data center infrastructure systems, virtualization, and hybrid cloud integration.
• Familiarity with DoD architecture frameworks and security controls (DoDAF, TOGAF, RMF, NIST 800-53, DISA STIGs).
• Active DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.
• Excellent communication skills and experience working in joint or cross-functional government/contractor teams.

Pay: From $140,000.00 per year
