Our client is a leading international life science company that develops, manufactures, and distributes instruments, consumables, and services for use in laboratories around the world.
The product portfolio of the business is diverse with significant investments into R&D. They are looking to expand the team by adding a System Controls Design Engineer within the team.
The System Controls Design Engineer will help to:
- Design and develop Cryotech systems aligned with product and customer requirements, following agile product development methodologies
- Develop and implement control algorithms (PID and advanced control strategies) for precise temperature regulation and system stability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture, requirements, and interfaces
- Apply numerical modeling and simulation techniques to predict system behavior and minimize reliance on physical prototyping
- Build, calibrate, and validate system models to ensure high fidelity and representativeness.
- Analyze system performance data and optimize control strategies and thermodynamic efficiency
- Integrate control systems with sensors, actuators, and refrigeration hardware
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance robustness and efficiency
- Analyze test results, identify improvement opportunities, and drive design updates.
- Research and propose innovative solutions to improve performance, cost, and sustainability
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure systems meet quality, safety, and production requirements
- Work closely with suppliers and vendors on component selection and system integration
- Support sourcing decisions by ensuring technical feasibility and performance alignment
- Create and review technical specifications for refrigeration systems and components, ensuring manufacturability and supplier feasibility
- Prepare and maintain design documentation, including system specifications, control logic descriptions, and operation manuals
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 13485
Training & Qualifications:
- Degree in Control Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong experience in control systems design, with a focus on PID control and system dynamics
- Proven in modeling and simulation (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools)
- Developing and implementing control software (embedded or industrial systems)
- Understanding of system integration, sensors, and actuators
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
Pay: £55,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
