Are you interested in utilizing your systems engineering skills to support our community’s critical public services and infrastructure, including city management, public safety, courts and so much more? The City of Commerce City is seeking a dynamic IT Systems Engineer to serve as a trusted technology partner to our public safety and courts divisions.

The IT Systems Engineer - Public Safety is responsible for the overall technical support, configuration, maintenance, and administration of assigned applications and platforms for the Commerce City Police Department and Courts divisions. This role provides primary and subject matter expertise on assigned applications for the Police Department and Courts. and will be the trusted IT partner to Police Department and will identify technology needs, gather business/technical requirements, evaluate current and future technologies and manage technical projects.

Serves as subject matter expert and technical lead engineer role for the enterprise server infrastructure including: server hardware, storage devices, server operating systems, messaging systems, IT Security, Microsoft 365, VOIP, virtualization, departmental and enterprise applications
Architects, designs, analyzes, and manages enterprise server/systems including installation, performance tuning, maintenance and security
Provides advanced technical support for all IT server and systems to include complex evaluation, diagnosis and problem resolution
Maintains assigned systems hardware, software and infrastructure
Manages security access to assigned systems, related records, and documents and maintains strict confidentiality
Ensures standards are developed and adhered per industry best practices
Areas of responsibility also include the enterprise network systems including but not limited to switches, routers, wireless, remote access, VoIP system, firewalls, security, network monitoring, and authentication systems
Serves as escalation point for IT Technicians on technical problem resolutions
Upgrades software and server applications
Conducts periodic tests of disaster recovery plan with key members of IT
Serves as project management and technical expert on assigned projects
Ensures that all work is committed to excellence with a strong attention to detail
Researches and evaluates new technologies and network management tools
Prepares bid specifications, develops requests for proposals or requests for information
Works with team to develop and maintain backup procedures and storage strategies
Prepares and maintains documentation for proper use of systems; operating procedures; procedures for managing and maintaining the assigned systems and infrastructure
Schedules resources and timing for network, software, and server upgrades in accordance with the change process and schedule
Evaluates and recommends products and services to maintain and expand network and systems
Develops and maintains SQL triggers, stored procedures, DB Schema, views and scripts
Participate in the on-call after hours support team
Document all work products and progress in the IT Service Management System
Ensure service level commitments are met to internal and external customers
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, technology management or related field and five years of progressively responsible experience are required. Must complete and pass a CJIS background investigation prior to employment, and obtain CJIS certification within 30 days of starting employment. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Pay: $104,500.00 - $116,171.00 per year
