Position Summary

The Systematic Skill Builder (SSB) Specialist provides individualized, community-based and in-home support to adults with autism and developmental disabilities. The SSB Specialist assists participants in developing and maintaining skills necessary to live as independently as possible within their homes and communities.

Services are provided according to the participant's Individual Support Plan (ISP), Skill Building Plan, and organizational policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement individualized skill-building programs and support plans.
  • Teach daily living skills such as:
  • Meal preparation
  • Household cleaning
  • Laundry
  • Personal hygiene
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Time management
  • Organization skills
  • Assist participants with developing social and communication skills.
  • Support participants in accessing community resources and activities.
  • Teach and reinforce self-advocacy and decision-making skills.
  • Collect data and document participant progress toward goals.
  • Complete service documentation accurately and within required timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, support coordinators, and other team members.
  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and uphold individual rights.

Minimum Qualifications

One of the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Sociology, Counseling, Special Education, Human Development, or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in another field with relevant experience working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, or behavioral health needs; OR
  • Other qualifications that meet Adult Autism Waiver provider requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Experience providing community-based services.
  • Knowledge of person-centered practices.
  • Experience writing or implementing skill-building plans.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to pass:
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
  • FBI Fingerprinting (if applicable)
  • Ability to complete all required ODP/AAW trainings.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel throughout the community.
  • Ability to assist participants with community activities and daily living tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
