Systems Administrator

We are seeking an experienced Network and Systems Administrator to design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise server infrastructure, network systems, and core IT services. This role is responsible for ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing Windows Server environments, network availability, backup operations, hardware/software configuration, system monitoring, and infrastructure support.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience installing and configuring enterprise hardware and software, performing daily backups, troubleshooting server and hardware issues, monitoring network security and availability, and supporting Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualization, firewalls, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and hybrid cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, servers, network systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise server infrastructure, network systems, and core IT services.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, domain services, user accounts, permissions, and authentication services.
  • Install new servers, rebuild existing servers, and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage according to standards and operational requirements.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
  • Review system logs, application logs, alerts, and monitoring dashboards to identify performance, availability, and security issues.
  • Verify completion of scheduled jobs, including backups, system tasks, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform daily backup operations, including ensuring required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to appropriate media or backup platforms.
  • Support disaster recovery processes, recovery testing, archival processes, and restoration activities.
  • Troubleshoot server, hardware, software, network, and infrastructure issues.
  • Diagnose and recover from hardware failures, software failures, configuration issues, and system outages.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify potential intrusions, vulnerabilities, or unauthorized activity.
  • Apply operating system patches, upgrades, security updates, and system enhancements on a regular basis.
  • Upgrade administrative tools, utilities, infrastructure services, and system software as needed.
  • Configure and add new services to support project and operational requirements.
  • Support virtualization platforms, including VMware, Hyper-V, or related virtual infrastructure.
  • Maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure, firewalls, VPN, TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, wireless, and network connectivity.
  • Monitor networks to ensure security, performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Configure CPU, memory, disk partitions, storage resources, and server capacity as required.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, architecture, and procedural documentation.
  • Provide Tier III and escalated infrastructure support to users, teams, and technical constituencies.
  • Coordinate and communicate with impacted users, departments, vendors, and technical teams during incidents, maintenance, and outages.
  • Participate in technical research and development to support innovation and continuous improvement within the infrastructure.
  • Ensure system hardware, operating systems, software, procedures, and infrastructure practices adhere to District policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment as needed.
  • Provide recommendations to improve system reliability, performance, security, and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 20 years of education and/or equivalent IT-related experience.
  • 16+ years of experience installing and configuring system hardware and software in an enterprise environment.
  • 16+ years of experience performing daily backups.
  • 16+ years of experience troubleshooting server and other hardware issues.
  • 4+ years of strong experience with Windows Server 2016, 2019, and/or 2022, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
  • 10+ years of proficiency with DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VPN, and firewall technologies.
  • 10+ years of experience with virtualization platforms, including VMware or Hyper-V.
  • 10+ years of familiarity with backup solutions, disaster recovery, and monitoring tools.
  • 10+ years of strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience managing server patching, system upgrades, capacity planning, performance tuning, and infrastructure lifecycle support.
  • Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, VLANs, and network segmentation.
  • Experience supporting security best practices, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, system monitoring, and access control.
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation, standard operating procedures, configuration records, and system architecture documentation.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • 16+ years of experience monitoring networks to ensure security and availability.
  • 16+ years of experience installing operating system patches and upgrades.
  • 10+ years of experience with Azure, Microsoft 365, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • 10+ years of experience with enterprise storage systems, including SAN and/or NAS.
  • 10+ years of relevant certifications or equivalent certification-level experience, such as MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, VMware VCP, or Azure Administrator AZ-104.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience with cloud identity, hybrid identity, Azure Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 administration, and cloud security configuration.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools, backup platforms, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity support.
  • Experience supporting public sector, government, or large enterprise environments.
