Job Purpose:
This role will be responsible for full-aircraft systems engineering, encompassing the definition, design, integration, modification, and verification of mechanical, electrical, avionics, and mission systems. This includes supporting physical aircraft changes, ensuring compliance with FAA certification requirements or Public Use standards, and coordinating across regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, and mission-capable aircraft.
Key Responsibilities:- Define and manage system-level requirements by analyzing customer needs, product design criteria, and performance standards.
- Conduct engineering design reviews and provide technical oversight of integration activities.
- Support aircraft physical modifications, including structural, mechanical, and electrical/avionics changes, ensuring alignment with certification or Public Use requirements.
- Provide technical inputs to project planning by identifying task sequencing, dependencies, and risks that impact design, modification, and verification activities.
- Coordinate and collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure system interconnectivity, technical integrity, and airworthiness.
- Plan and execute system and component-level tests to verify performance against requirements.
- Ensure compliance with FAA regulations (Part 23/25/91/135/145), military standards (MIL-STD), and/or Public Use aircraft requirements.
- Provide technical support to internal teams, external customers, and regulatory authorities (e.g., DERs, FAA).
- Prepare technical documentation and reports to support certification or customer acceptance.
- Maintain system and product integrity by adhering to quality, safety, and security requirements.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned in support of program and company objectives.
Skills/Qualifications:- Education:
- M.S. in Engineering with 3+ years’ experience, OR
- B.S. in Engineering with 5+ years’ experience in systems development and integration.
- Technical Experience:
- Mechanical, electrical, or avionics systems development and aircraft integration.
- Hands-on experience supporting aircraft modifications and/or installations.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD modeling tools.
- Familiarity with FAA regulations including Part 91, 135, and 145.
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices including requirements management, verification/validation, and configuration management.
- Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and self-motivation with minimal supervision.
- Effective communicator with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated customer focus and ability to support external stakeholders.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Job Experience:- Experience in the design, integration, and modification of sensor and/or electromechanical systems on manned aircraft platforms, preferably Beechcraft King Air, DHC-8, or Gulfstream.
- Prior work developing both aircraft-centric systems and customer-furnished mission equipment.
- Familiarity with FAA certification processes (STC, TSO, PMA) and/or Public Use aircraft approval requirements.
- Hands-on experience with integration labs, ground testing, and flight test campaigns.
Familiarity with RTCA/DO-160/178 standards for avionics and systems certification.
