Role Summary

The Systems Engineer- ERP plays a critical role in designing, modernizing, and integrating SAP-centric enterprise landscapes with Tessera’s AI-native platform. This role blends deep SAP technical expertise—particularly ABAP development and S/4HANA modernization—with systems engineering, integration design, and applied automation.

You will work hands-on with SAP ECC and S/4HANA systems, analyze and remediate custom ABAP code, design cross-system integrations, and support AI-driven automation across ERP, CRM, and finance platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer who understands how SAP systems actually run in production and wants to modernize them safely using intelligent automation.

Key Responsibilities

1. SAP Systems Engineering & ERP Development

• Analyze, design, refactor, and remediate custom ABAP code across SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments.

• Support S/4HANA migrations, including custom code adaptation, data model changes, and performance optimization.

• Debug complex SAP issues across application, data, and integration layers.

• Ensure SAP solutions align with clean-core principles, extensibility best practices, and enterprise governance standards.

• Work across SAP versions (ECC, S/4HANA On-Prem, Private Cloud, Public Cloud) and manage BTP integration setup and development.

• Solid understanding of SAP modules such as SD, MM, FI/CO, and PP within integrated enterprise landscapes.

2. Enterprise Architecture & Integration

• Design and implement integrations between SAP core and adjacent enterprise systems (CRM, SCM, data platforms).

• Work with APIs/OData/SOAP, RAP, IDocs, RFCs, events, and middleware (e.g., MuleSoft or similar) to enable cross-system workflows.

• Collaborate on end-to-end architecture designs that incorporate AI-driven automation into SAP-centric landscapes.

• Ensure operational reliability, security, scalability, and optimal data flows within complex systems landscape.

3. AI-Enabled Modernization & Automation

• Apply Tessera’s multi-agent AI platform to automate SAP-related workflows, data harmonization, and code remediation.

• Partner with AI and platform engineers to integrate SAP systems into agent orchestration and governance frameworks.

• Support real-world modernization scenarios involving incomplete documentation and legacy customizations.

4. Customer & Delivery Collaboration

• Act as a hands-on technical contributor during enterprise transformation projects.

• Collaborate with architecture, product, and delivery teams to ensure successful outcomes.

• Communicate technical findings and design decisions clearly to both SAP specialists and non-SAP stakeholders.

• Travel to customer sites as needed to support implementation and critical milestones.

5. Ownership & Operational Excellence

• Take responsibility for production-quality solutions in regulated, mission-critical environments.

• Balance speed with safety, governance, and auditability.

• Contribute to internal best practices for SAP modernization and enterprise automation.

Technical Skills

SAP

• Strong experience with ABAP development, debugging, and performance tuning.

• Hands-on exposure to SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA environments.

• Deep expertise in SAP data models, including Core Data Services (CDS) views, ABAP Managed Database Procedures (AMDPs), and WRICEF (Workflows, Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, and Forms) objects.

• Familiarity with SAPUI5, S/4HANA migration considerations, clean-core principles, and tools like ADT and BAS.

Enterprise Integration

• Experience with enterprise integration patterns: APIs, BAPIs, IDocs, RFCs, ETL, events.

• Exposure to ERP-adjacent platforms such as Salesforce, Workday, Snowflake, or similar.

• Ability to reason about cross-system data consistency and process orchestration.

Software & Automation

• Working knowledge of ABAP or similar languages for automation and tooling.

• Ability to read, reason about, and debug systems across multiple layers.

• Exposure to AI-driven automation, orchestration frameworks, or workflow engines is a plus.

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (BTP, AWS, GCP, or Azure).

• Awareness of observability, logging, monitoring, and secure deployment practices.

Required Qualifications

• 3–7+ years of experience in SAP systems engineering, ABAP development, or SAP technical consulting.

• Strong hands-on ABAP programming and debugging experience.

• Experience working with complex, customized SAP landscapes.

• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.

• Willingness to travel to customer sites (primarily U.S.).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting S/4HANA migrations or ECC modernization programs.

• Background in enterprise integration or middleware platforms.

• Prior experience in customer-facing engineering or delivery roles.

• Exposure to AI-enabled automation or intelligent systems.

• Experience in regulated or audit-heavy enterprise environments.

• Experience with Java, Node.js or Python

Compensation Range: $120K - $180K
