Job Description Summary:
The Engineer III, Systems is responsible for the planning and engineering of systems infrastructure, including the design and implementation of hardware and software solutions. This position is a top-level contributor and specialist in monitoring systems to identify and resolve performance or availability issues. The role requires creativity and latitude in solving complex problems and providing expert guidance to the IS team.
Responsibilities:
- Design, install, support, and maintain hardware and software infrastructure, including servers, SAN, routers, switches, Wi-Fi controllers, and firewalls according to leading practices.
- Perform network security design and integration to ensure robust system protection.
- Maintain Wi-Fi infrastructure (Ruckus) to ensure operational excellence.
- Diagnose and resolve complex problems, often under time constraints, to minimize downtime.
- Implement controls and procedures to protect information systems from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction.
- Develop guidelines and procedures for system administration and security best practices.
- Investigate, audit, and remediate security intrusions to maintain system integrity.
- Monitor network usage and systems to anticipate potential problems and suggest solutions.
- Support and maintain the organizational VoIP phone system (Zoom) and its related products, including Zoom Contact Center, Chat, Conferencing, and third-party products such as Singlewire Fusion.
- Act as an expert resource to Information Systems staff, providing guidance and troubleshooting expertise.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve goals and improve processes.
- Perform periodic performance reporting, supporting capacity planning, performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
- Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions to maintain efficient system operation.
- Work with stakeholders to architect, maintain, and report on organizational backup tasks, ensuring reliable hardware and software solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position. High School Diploma / GED required.
- Certifications in VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP), Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Professional, and Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCP-V) preferred, or willingness to work toward certification within 12 months.
Experience:
- Seven (7) years of experience in Virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, XenServer), Microsoft systems, enterprise applications, network infrastructure, and Citrix systems.
- Five (5) years of experience supporting VoIP and Contact Center environments.
- Five (5) years of experience working with Ruckus equipment supporting Wi-Fi environments preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience in Internet Security Architecture and support preferred.
Required Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Wi-Fi architecture and maintenance (Cisco, Ruckus preferred).
- Proficiency in SD-WAN architecture and maintenance.
- Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex system issues.
- Ability to develop technical documentation and present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Deep technical expertise in one or more core systems-related technologies (e.g., infrastructure, networking, operating systems, storage/data management, security, virtualization, messaging, and collaboration).
- Ability to remain current with technology trends and advancements.
