INTRODUCTION: This position reports to the Chief Engineer. It is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties and has authority delegated commensurate with assigned responsibilities.
SYSTEMS ENGINEER - MECHATRONICS POSITION SUMMARY: The Systems Engineer – Mechatronics will design, develop, and implement complex systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components to improve our commercial truck and trailer products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions and contribute to cutting-edge technology. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Include, but are not limited to:

Designing, developing, and testing integrated systems that combine mechanical, electrical, and software components.

Collaborating with design and production teams to ensure all system components meet functionality, reliability, safety, and regulatory standards.

Creating detailed technical specifications and design documentation for mechatronic systems and components.

Conducting simulations and modelling to optimize system performance and identify potential improvements.

Programming and debugging embedded systems and control algorithms.
-
Analyzing system failures and implementing improvement and corrective actions.

Managing the project lifecycle, from concept to production, ensuring timely delivery of systems and components.

Capture and maintain system requirements from various internal and external sources.

Decompose system requirements to relevant Mechanical, Hardware, and Software requirements.

Validate compliance with system and related sub-system requirements

Verify real world functional performance to established requirements.

Conduct feasibility studies and simulations to evaluate system designs and functionality.

Develop schematics, technical drawings, and 3D models for mechatronic systems.

Collaborate with other engineers and departments to ensure system integration and alignment with project goals.

Oversee the integration of sensors, actuators, and controllers into automated systems or machines.

Perform testing, simulations, and validation of mechatronic systems on computer-aided design (CAD) software to model system behavior and required performance. (Manage System DVP&R)

Document design processes, testing results, and technical specifications for future reference.

Conduct debugging and troubleshooting of embedded systems and control circuits.
-
Ensure optimal safety standards and regulatory requirements are followed in all designs.
20. Review system designs for cost-efficiency, quality, and scalability in production.
21. Communicate project progress to stakeholders and coordinate with external suppliers and contractors.
22. Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in mechatronics engineering to continuously improve designs and processes.
Requirements:
Required skills and qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of experience as a mechatronics engineer or a similar role, preferably in system automation, robotics, or manufacturing.

Proficiency in CAD software (such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA) for designing mechatronic systems.

Strong knowledge of control systems, embedded systems, robotics, and automation.

Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, or Python for controlling embedded systems.

Familiarity with electrical components, including sensors, actuators, PLCs, microcontrollers, and embedded systems.

Solid understanding of mechanical design principles and their application in mechatronic systems.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and computer programming.

Ability to analyze system performance and troubleshoot complex engineering problems.

Preferred skills and qualifications

A Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience with automotive or aerospace development, industrial robotics, and automation systems in manufacturing settings.

Proficiency in using simulation software like MATLAB or Simulink to model mechatronic systems.

Hands-on experience with hardware integration and testing of mechatronic components.

Knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as applied to mechatronic systems.

Knowledge of control theory, signal processing, and embedded software development.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Primarily office-based with regular visits to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and customer sites.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and engage in physical activities typical of office and manufacturing environments.

Occasionally required to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
