THE ROLE

Rocklin Unified School District is hiring a senior Systems Engineer who also knows how to code. This is a hands-on enterprise infrastructure role — networking, servers, SAN, backup, fleet management — with a strong added emphasis on automation, cloud platforms, and data analytics. If you’ve spent years keeping enterprise infrastructure running and you’ve also built automation pipelines or cloud integrations on the side, this role was written for you.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Salary: $127,511 – $155,173/year DOE (RAPA Classified Manager Schedule, Steps A–G)

YOUR CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (SYSTEMS ENGINEERING FIRST)

• Manage and maintain enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure — HP/Aruba and Cisco switching, routing, wireless, and VoIP
• Administer Windows Server, Linux, and macOS environments; manage Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft Intune for enterprise fleet management
• Manage VMware virtualization, iSCSI SAN/NAS storage, and enterprise backup/disaster recovery systems
• Oversee district-wide device fleet: imaging, deployment, lifecycle management across all sites
• Monitor network and server performance; proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact staff or students
• Maintain firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, and network security across all sites
• Document infrastructure, maintain asset inventories, and communicate maintenance schedules to stakeholders

YOUR PROGRAMMING AND DATA RESPONSIBILITIES

• Automate infrastructure tasks using Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, and Terraform
• Manage multi-cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP
• Build and maintain APIs for integration between district systems and vendor platforms
• Develop data analytics dashboards and reports using Power BI, Looker, or Elastic
• Implement zero-trust security and data privacy frameworks in cloud and hybrid environments
• Build AI-driven applications supporting district operations and instruction
• Mentor district and site-based technicians on automation, cloud, and data best practices

WHAT WE NEED (REQUIRED)

• 4+ years of enterprise systems engineering experience
• Deep knowledge of LAN/WAN networking — Cisco or HP/Aruba (switching, routing, wireless, VoIP)
• Strong Windows Server and Linux administration; Active Directory, Group Policy, Intune
• VMware or equivalent virtualization experience
• SAN/NAS storage administration (iSCSI preferred)
• Enterprise backup and disaster recovery experience
• Enterprise endpoint/fleet management experience

WHAT SETS YOU APART (STRONGLY PREFERRED)

• Python scripting; bonus for PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or Terraform
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
• REST API development or integration experience
• Data analytics or BI tool experience (Power BI, Looker, Tableau, or similar)
• Docker or Kubernetes experience
• Cloud security frameworks and/or FERPA compliance knowledge
