Job Description

A Tap Room Server at Staehly Farm Winery's Yankee Cider Barn is primarily engaged in making guests comfortable during their visit as well as providing an entertaining and informative lesson in the farm's history and craftsmanship of its ciders. An ideal candidate will be able to fulfill these duties while also actively promoting and selling the Winery's hard ciders. The Tap Room Server performs the day-to-day operations of the Tap Room, ensuring all tasting room policies, procedures and directions are applied and upheld in a positive manner while providing all guests a unique and memorable experience.

This position requires the Tap Room Server to present him/herself in a positive, uplifting and mature manner, with a neat and organized appearance, and a high level of energy. The position requires a good degree of practical and sensible judgment, the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment, and practical patience in working with large crowds.

This is a part-time position (< 15 hours/week most weeks) with potential to grow into more long-term employment as the business grows. The tap room location is open weekends year-round. The position is ideal for someone with enthusiasm for hard ciders and wine and who is looking to work a few days on the weekends to make extra money. Must be 21 years or older.

Specific job responsibilities include:

Guest Experience & Sales

  • Conduct tastings – explaining the tasting process and procedures as well as educate guests about hard ciders and cider manufacturing practices.
  • Make informed suggestions for cider pairings to complement guests' tastes.
  • Effectively promote and sell guests on the cider, InCIder club program, and events.
  • Conduct special, VIP, InCider Club member tastings as may be directed.
  • Be well-informed about the local area and able to make appropriate suggestions for additional activities for visitors.

Administrative

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge about Staehly Farm Winery's wines, orchard, brand and winery as well as those of Yankee Cider Company.
  • Work with the Winery to maintain complete knowledge of and ensure all wine/cider/alcohol pouring regulations, State of Connecticut liquor regulations, and operational procedures are fully followed.
  • Verify legal drinking age of patrons as needed.
  • Perform all opening and closing procedures as directed.
  • Accurately perform all cash handling and inventory control procedures as directed.
  • Have good understanding of non-wine items featured for sale or use at the Winery and Cidery and assist with re-stocking alcohol and non-alcohol items as may be needed.
  • Report to work on time and communicate effectively with management regarding time off (both scheduled and emergency).
  • Assist of staff members as needed to ensure optimum service to all patrons.

Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
