About the Role

Skyline Financial Management is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and technology-adaptable Tax Associate / Staff Accountant to support tax preparation, tax-ready bookkeeping, and client accounting workflows.

This role is ideal for someone who has a strong foundation in bookkeeping and accounting, experience with tax-related work, and the ability to keep records clean, organized, and ready for review. The right candidate is a doer: someone who takes ownership, follows through, catches details, communicates clearly, and can adapt as our firm continues to improve its systems and technology.

The position will support tax preparation workflows under management review. It may also include reviewing bookkeeping work prepared by a junior bookkeeper, identifying errors, organizing client records, and helping ensure books are accurate and ready for tax filing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and organization of individual and business tax return workpapers
  • Review client books and financial records for tax readiness
  • Identify missing documents, inconsistencies, coding issues, and potential bookkeeping errors
  • Assist with tax-related schedules, supporting documentation, and client file organization
  • Review bookkeeping work prepared by a junior bookkeeper as needed
  • Review reconciliations, transaction categorization, general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and related accounting records
  • Communicate clearly with team members regarding missing information, corrections, and workflow status
  • Help maintain organized digital records for deductions, payroll, sales tax, 1099s, fixed assets, and other tax-related items
  • Support preparation of financial reports used for tax planning and tax filing
  • Follow firm procedures, quality standards, and review processes
  • Use accounting software, tax software, document management tools, and other technology efficiently
  • Assist with process improvements and help maintain accurate, organized workflows
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and within deadlines

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in tax preparation support, bookkeeping, accounting, or a related role
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and basic accounting principles
  • Ability to review financial records and identify errors or missing information
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently while following firm procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to new software, systems, and technology
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Drake, or similar platforms
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting individual or business tax return preparation
  • Experience working in a tax office, accounting firm, CPA firm, bookkeeping firm, or small business accounting environment
  • Familiarity with tax workpapers and tax-ready bookkeeping
  • Experience reviewing bookkeeping prepared by others
  • Familiarity with payroll records, sales tax, 1099s, deductions, fixed assets, and business tax documentation
  • QuickBooks Online experience
  • Active PTIN or ability to obtain a PTIN prior to preparing or substantially assisting with federal tax returns
  • CPA or EA credential is a plus, but not required

Technology Expectations

Skyline Financial Management uses technology to improve accuracy, organization, and efficiency. The ideal candidate should be comfortable learning new systems, using digital workflows, working with cloud-based accounting tools, and adapting as processes improve.

We are looking for someone who is open to better, cleaner, and more efficient ways of getting work done.
