Join TCEQ! We are looking for a Contract Attorney I to join the General Law Division.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM
As part of TCEQ’s Office of Legal Services, you would provide legal advice on contracts, grants, procurements, and other areas of law to agency program areas, including the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) program. See details about what we do.
This position is a member of our General Law Division.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Review and draft contracts, grants, and other procurement documents.
  • Provide sound legal advice and opinions on procurements and grants throughout the contract lifecycle (i.e., development, management, and closeout) in accordance with state and federal law and regulations.
  • Participate in litigation regarding breach of contract, including developing claims and coordinating with the Office of the Attorney General.
  • Represent the Executive Director in procurement-related negotiations and disputes, including protests and contract-related claims.
  • Participate in assigned projects, such as training and presentations; developing policies, rules, procedures, templates, and forms; and tracking, reviewing, analyzing and implementing legislation.
Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Admission to the State Bar of Texas.
NOTE: Applicants who have taken the July 2025 Texas Bar Exam may be considered for employment in a non-Attorney position while awaiting exam results.
  • Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Attorney I, II, III, IIIB state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Attorney I, II, III, IIIB series.

WORK SCHEDULE
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ General Law Division.
