Job Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Game Designer who sees games as both playgrounds and puzzles. You will set the vision for gameplay, lead sets from early brainstorming through to polished, balanced game pieces that players can’t wait to explore. This role is about more than just rules; it is about crafting experiences that are fun, surprising, and deeply satisfying. With your guidance, our card sets will carry the spark of discovery that keeps players coming back.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Define and communicate the vision for gameplay systems, mechanics, and balance across multiple sets.
- Lead and mentor the game design team, providing feedback, guidance, and inspiration.
- Prototype, playtest, and iterate on new mechanics to ensure they are fun, innovative, and aligned with product goals.
- Collaborate with creative, narrative, and production teams to integrate gameplay with story, art, and product strategy.
- Review and refine card design, rules interactions, and set-level balance to maintain a high-quality bar.
- Inspire your team to explore fresh design spaces, player trends, and out-of-the-box thinking.
- Act as the primary design voice in cross-team discussions, ensuring gameplay decisions support overall product success.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thrives on exploration, producing bold directions, and guidance that inspires your team.
- Oversee the in-game economy with a strong mathematical foundation.
- Understanding of, and sympathy for, building a product for a specific audience.
- Expert documentation and record keeping skills.
- Deep understanding of game balance, rules systems, and iterative design processes.
- Passion for trading card games, board games, video games, and pop culture.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across creative and production disciplines.
Equipment/Software, Education and Experience:
- 8+ years of professional game design experience in trading card games, tabletop, or video games.
- Proven track record of shipping successful game products with strong player engagement.
- Experience leading design teams or pods, with the ability to mentor and inspire others.
- Technical proficiency in digital art tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
