Job Summary
 
 : The Teacher in a Learning Empowered center is responsible for the early education of children in their care. Duties and responsibilities of the Teacher include developing and delivering interactive learning programs designed to engage and educate young children in a high quality, safe environment.
 
  Essential Functions
  
- 
   Implement agency-approved curriculum to provide a high-quality educational experience for children in assigned classroom
  
- 
   Conduct ongoing assessment using approved and required assessment tools of all children in assigned classroom to ensure attainment of educational goals and conduct lesson planning
  
- 
   Provide a variety of tools and resources for children to explore during learning and play activities
  
- 
   Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles/levels of children
  
- 
   Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents and communicate specific needs to help individual children achieve success in partnership with parents
  
- 
   Manage classroom activities including a daily schedule with lessons, play, breaks, and meals
  
- 
   Develop lesson plans tailored to meet children’s developmental needs as informed by observation and ongoing assessment and submit to Center Director as requested
  
- 
   Maintain an orderly, clean, and stimulating classroom environment as per accreditation and/or Pinellas County Licensing Board (PCLB) guidelines
  
- 
   Collaborate and coordinate with Assistant Teacher to maintain appropriate supervision of children in always assigned classroom
  
- 
   Maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to students and families
  
- 
   Consult with the Center Director about concerns regarding children who may need referral for assessments or other interventions to achieve learning successes
  
- 
   Maintain inventory of classroom materials and inform Center Director of needs to ensure a healthy learning environment
  
- 
   Keep accurate records and files as required by agency policy, licensing requirements, and assessment requirements
  
- 
   Attend training sessions, conferences and staff meetings which foster personal growth and/or are required by the agency, Licensing Board, or other designated agencies.
  
- 
   Maintain accreditations, licenses, and renewals as required for the position or designated by the agency
  
- 
   Remain flexible to accommodate the center needs to ensure proper supervision and ratios including working in other classrooms as assigned by the center director.
  
- 
   Contribute positively to reflective supervision efforts in meetings with Supervisor and in team meetings to promote teamwork
  
- 
   Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
   
 
 
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required- 
   A.S./A.A. in education or early education - or - National CDA
  
- 
    Bachelor’s Degree preferred, preferably in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, or related
   
- 
   Completed DCF 45 clock hours documented on transcript
  
- 
   Fluent in English
  
- 
   Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds and in an emergency pick up a 40-pound child.
  
- 
   Physical ability to extend arms overhead, grasp with hands, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, walk, sit on floor.
  
- 
   Clear Level II Background Check (when conducted by agency upon hire) and maintained throughout employment
  
- 
   Current First Aid/CPR, including Infant and Child CPR, or willing to obtain upon hire within 6 months of hire.
  
- 
   Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a diverse audience of volunteers and clients.
  
- 
   Ability to use computer software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Email client, Internet) in a Windows environment to communicate and maintain records.
  
- 
   Ability to maintain professional boundaries with parents, other staff, other visiting professionals.
  
- 
   Ability to maintain and protect confidential information with other staff, volunteers, families, and other visiting professionals.
  
- 
   Ability to create an environment where children, parents, staff, and volunteers feel welcomed and affirmed
  
- 
   Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the program including the possibility of early morning or late afternoon hours to assist in opening or closing the program as well as occasional nights or weekends for trainings or center events
