Primary Function:
Responsible for delivering and monitoring high-quality virtual education instruction to students statewide, ensuring engaging and effective remote learning experiences while maintaining a physical presence at the designated instructional center. Use the vision and mission of the district to drive decision making.
Qualifications:
- State of Michigan Secondary Education Teacher certification.
- Ability to motivate all students to be successful in their coursework.
- Ability to develop meaningful relationships with students to foster success.
- Teachers must be strong customer service leaders for students, families and community members.
- Understand and effectively utilize technology in both instructional and operational settings.
- Ability to initiate and complete tasks with self-direction in a timely manner.
- Excellent English and grammar skills, proofreading skills, oral and written communications skills.
- Online teacher experience, preferred.
Reports to: Center Director - This position will directly report to the physical location they are hired for on a daily basis to fulfill the 185 day contract. Centers are typically staffed from 8:00 - 3:30 based on the district calendar.
Term:
Contract will be for 185 days. Extended opportunities for weekend hours, summer session hours and extended school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles in a virtual environment.
- Contribute to ongoing modifications and improvements to course materials in content areas while maintaining the essential standards.
- This requires teachers to work in their course through a student lens, and analyze student data to enhance engagement and identify areas for reinforcement.
- Collaborate actively through PLCs with teammates across the state to enhance the student experience.
- Monitor data to continually engage students to meet district goals and standards in accordance with the school improvement plan.
- Grading all student assignments and assessments within the framework of the grading policy expectations.
- There may be times when this work will need to take place outside of the normal workday to meet the policy of grading, leading to Teachers of Record working above and beyond the 8 - 3:30 scheduled day to adhere to the grading policy.
- Willingness to acclimate to the learning management system in order to mentor and support students through online and in-person communication channels.
- Build positive relationships with students through various methods of communication each week - documentation of all of these is a requirement.
- General knowledge of Google Suite, Pulse, Text, Mail, Phone Conversations, etc.
- When necessary institute student academic behavior plans and help initiate academic interventions through MTSS.
- Actively participate in center duties as designated by the Center Director. Some examples below:
- Model usage of software, tools, and online programs for students.
- Assist in the Enrollment process.
- Organize and present student orientations.
- Cleaning and maintaining the center.
- Family Engagement opportunities.
- Classroom Management for in-person attendance.
- Graduation.
- Participate in all professional development sessions and in-service learning opportunities and objectives.
- When in person opportunities present themselves this may require travel and overnight accommodations, which will be a district expense.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Remain current with professional development opportunities and trends.
Benefits:
- Contract will be for 185 days and pay will be based on experience and may be prorated if hiring is completed after the first day of the district calendar.
