Position Summary:
This position is a ten-month position. This position is responsible for the daily leadership; guidance; monitoring and positive mentoring and modeling of best practices for the classroom staff and volunteers while maintaining and supporting the Head Start Program Performance Standards and all state childcare guidelines at your site. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the classroom, teaching a classroom of 15-20 three- to five-year-old children. This position is directly responsible for maintaining adult: child ratio in the classroom.

Knowledge and Experience:
Clean classroom areas the children use daily.
Daily Child Observations-observe and take notes while in class with children. Enter in these observations after class or as soon as possible to capture the observations.
Case notes. Enter notes into CAP 60, to be done daily.
Learning Genie. Upload: pictures, happenings, funny kid quotes, reminders for In Kind, Helpful Hints, Classroom Activities, Extension Activities, Homework, In Kind tutorials, Virtual Field Trips, etc.
Responsible for active supervision during the times the children are present in the classroom, playground, on field trips and family engagement activities.
Responsible to make certain all KDHE licensing accident/incident reports are filled out and reported to the CM or CMT, so they are scanned on the day they occur to Health & Safety Manager and the Director of Human Resources. A copy goes to the Parent to sign and return, and another for them to keep.
Maintain dependable, punctual attendance. Adhere to appropriate break times.
Report any suspected child/adult abuse or neglect to appropriate authority.
Must always maintain the adult to child ratio of 1-10.
Prepare Lesson Plans and submit to County Folder, Lesson Plans. Print and post in the classroom and work area.
Change classroom toys out. Clean and wipe down toys before they are put away. Add new toys to the classroom, add new pictures, take pictures, if necessary, on shelves to label as needed.
Change Library books. Clean and wipe down books before you put them away. Add new books to the library. At least 1 book per child in the classroom.
Assist on completing and ensuring Assistant Teacher and Program Aide knows how to complete all In Kind tracking.
Upload Recruitment logs to Sharepoint. All staff team effort to recruit children for the classroom to maintain a wait list.
Complete monthly Tornado and Fire Drills.
Ensure the Pedestrian Safety video is watched and practiced.
Ensure the Maintenance and Safety Checklist is filled in.
Review and restock First Aid and Fanny Pack supplies (can be done throughout year as needed).
Attend, participate in trainings, conferences, staff meetings, reflective supervision, coaching and in-service days.
Ensure the Beginning of the Year/1st Education Home Visit Orientation paperwork is complete on each child.
Complete the second Education Home Visit at the End of the School Year.
CACFP form must be filled out by the Parent, reviewed by the CACFP/Nutrition Manager.
Record Home visits in the agency software.
ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaires) and ASQ-SE must be completed by the family and child and entered in to the agency software.
Coordinate with Area Manager, Health and Safety Manager, Nutrition Manager, and caregivers to ensure Individualized Health Plan/Individualized Nutrition Health Plans are complete and approved before the child enters the class and reviewed by center staff.
IEP’s must be recorded and scanned into CAP60 then uploaded.
Set up developmentally appropriate classroom(s) environments based on the Curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards using the Fidelity tool of the Curriculum and your site Education Manager.
All staff must review Children’s Orientation paperwork including Health Assessment, immunization records, IHP and INHP, and contact/release information, prior to them entering the center.
Responsible for planning field trips utilizing the Field Trip Planning Form.
Complete parent teacher conferences.
Ensure The Parent Teacher conference that is held in the spring should also address transition to Kindergarten per Head Start Program Performance Standards 1302.61 (2)(ii) and 1302.71(a)(b)(2)(e) if the child is age eligible. Make sure the conversation about transitioning is documented in agency software.
Transition to Kindergarten strategies, activities and processes completed for the child’s succuss in their further education.

Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred, or related degree with at least 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education required.
Obtain Driver Improvement/AAA certification and First Aid and CPR certification and keep current, attend training in child abuse and neglect, blood borne pathogens upon hire.
Successfully complete and pass a physical exam, TB skin test and drug screen before beginning employment.
Submit to and pass criminal background/history check in compliance with State of Kansas Child Care Licensing.
Possess current valid state driver’s license and personal automobile insurance and present upon hire.
