TEACHER OF THE HANDICAPPED

Children's Center of Monmouth County, a Private Pre-K - 12 Private School for Special Needs Students

Reports to the Director/School Administrator, or designee

QUALIFICATIONS

New Jersey Certificate as Teacher of the Handicapped, or appropriate provisional/emergency certification

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To implement Board policy regarding philosophy and curriculum under the direction of the Administration through planning, organizing, managing and interacting with students, their families and their school districts.

To establish rapport with students, staff, parents and community.

To assist with the development, implementation, and follow-through of each student's Individualized Educational Plan. (IEP)

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Plan and implement instructional objectives consistent with the IEP, instructional guide and/or appropriate curriculum guides.

Prepare the IEP and instructional guide for each student enrolled in the class in consultation with related services staff, parents/guardians and sending district personnel as appropriate.

Relate with parents and community through positive professional cooperation.

Relate and work with other teachers, related services, health services, and special programs, e.g., music, physical education, etc.

Implement appropriate behavioral procedures of the school in concert with student's IEP.

Evaluate students and maintain mandated and appropriate records accordingly and consistently.

Maintain written plans and records of instruction and consultation activities.

Communicate positive support of students in their educational development.

Consult with child study teams, staff and administration as needed.

Develop plans for utilizing teaching assistants within your classroom. Ensure that they are performing their responsibilities correctly as per their job description.

In performing your responsibilities you must be able to lift, carry and/or assist in lifting and carrying students along with, but not limited to, standing, bending, twisting, walking quickly or if necessary, running.

Create and maintain a safe, healthy, and caring classroom environment.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
