Technical Designer I

Residential Architecture Studio | MCG

Position Summary Technical Designers contribute to successful project delivery by utilizing their technical and creative skills under the direct supervision of the Architect to support day to day architectural design tasks, drafting, and construction document production. This role is responsible for the foundational drafting, concept development, research, and organizational tasks needed for seamless project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting and Production: Produce and revise CAD floor plans, elevations, sections, and detail drawings based on sketches, redlines, and conceptual design drawings.
  • Design Support: Create limited design concepts for projects of small to moderate size and complexity (or selected portions of larger projects) and convey ideas to the team and client.
  • Standards and Organization: Maintain organized drawing files with careful, consistent adherence to company CAD standards.
  • Visualization: Create 3D models, renderings, and design diagrams.
  • Presentations: Prepare graphic presentations for client meetings and internal reviews.
  • Research: Perform basic research on materials, fixtures, building products, and code requirements.
  • Coordination: Assist with consultant and team coordination, including effective communication with the interior designer, production coordinator, estimator, consultants, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Documentation: Assist in preparing and distributing permit submittal packages and construction documentation.
  • Project Tracking: Track drawing revisions, contractor requests for information, shop drawings, and sub contractor submittals.
  • Field Support: Prepare clarifying sketches or diagrams for the field team as directed.

Core Competencies

  • Professional degree in architecture or equivalent.
  • 0 to 5 years related experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp.
  • Beginning understanding of residential building codes and light frame construction terminology.
