SUMMARY:
The Technical Designer is responsible for creating 1st Proto through Production specs to guide our manufacturing partners as they construct garments. This individual will work hand in hand with the Designers to perfect fit and bring their vision to life. This position will work primarily in Swim and Knits but may be required to assist the Senior Technical Designer on other categories based on workload or calendar deadlines. Candidates must be within reasonable commuting distance of the Mumu HQ office in Los Angeles, CA. The Technical Designer will work 3 days per week, in-person in an open office; and the remaining days remotely.
CORE DUTIES:
- Work with the Designer to interpret their ideas into designs
- Create target specs and assist the Designer in setting up initial tech packs with technical drawings including construction call outs, label placement, and inserting photos
- Update tech packs as styles are fit with updated technical drawings and all necessary construction revisions, BOM revisions, and finishing guide revisions
- Measure all reference garments, fit samples, PPS samples, and TOP samples
- Identify issues with the measured specs and call these out during the fitting
- Attend fittings with the Fit Tech, Designer, and Fit Model
- Participate in fittings to problem solve and execute revisions
- Work closely with Design and our manufacturing partners to achieve the desired construction and fit results
- Establish base size target specs and collaborate with our in-house grader to include graded specs
- Problem solve with the Product Development and Production team to answer technical questions and address challenges
- Ensure size, fit, construction, and quality consistency
- Maintain the technical fit log and track samples for fittings
- Prioritize work by delivery to ensure calendar deadlines are met
- Communicate daily with overseas factories
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, flexible in changing direction as needed
- Proficient in MS Office and Adobe applications including Word, Excel, and Illustrator
- Candidate must be highly organized and able to prioritize with a sense of urgency
- Candidate must be a team player, willing and able to work cross-functionally with multiple departments
- Dynamic problem solving and project management skills
- Analytical self-starter with a proven history of success self-managing complete steps of the technical Design through Production process
- Must have proven knowledge of garment construction including points of measurement and sewing techniques
- Must have a thorough understanding of patterns, grade rules, and garment engineering
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3 years’ technical experience working specifically in Swim
- Minimum 5 years’ technical experience
- Knowledge of Tukatech, Gerber, Optitex (or alternate computer patternmaking software) is a plus
- Experience working with Plus Sizes is desirable
- Able to work and think independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent follow-through and attention to detail

Pay: $43.00 - $55.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38 – 40 per week
