JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a technically skilled Technical Designer to develop concept, design intent, permit, and shop drawings for custom signage solutions. This role combines design expertise with engineering principles to support fabrication, installation, retrofit, estimating, and sales. Ideal candidates will have a background in drafting, mechanical design, or engineering technology, with experience in the sign industry or related manufacturing environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and revise shop drawings within code and according to company standards, specifications, surveys, and engineering requirements of customers as directed by art request and/or management.
- Review art request dashboard regularly for newly assigned art requests.
- Self-assign new art requests from dashboard as required to help meet schedule due dates.
- Provide accurate dimensions and other technical information required to manufacture signs.
- Attend project meetings and collaborate with project management, sales, manufacturing, installation and/or other stakeholders to clarify details, solve problems and optimize methods and materials.
- Assist with continuous improvement by helping to keep standard drawing details and templates updated as required.
- Accurately record time allocated to each project and follow other designated work process protocols.
- Provides support and guidance on other various projects as needed.
- May use CalcuSign or other approved engineering software to determine sign structural requirements.
- May use Wayfindit or other approved wayfinding design software to complete ADA drawing packages.
- Other tasks as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong computer/software skills with an emphasis on CorelDraw, Adobe, & Microsoft Office/Windows.
- Understanding of materials and fabrication methods in the sign manufacturing process.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, basic geometry, converting measurements in feet and inches, converting fractions and metric dimensions.
- Ability to read and understand architectural plans and visualize 3D spatial relationships from 2D sketches and drawings.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize assigned tasks for most efficient use of time to meet due dates.
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to review, understand and interpret site survey information, photos and other documents
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to design within estimated budgets
- Preferred: Associate’s degree or higher in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or related field.
