About Us
Better With Age is a luxury design house that specializes in upcycling vintage goods through garment to garment reconstruction. We’re looking to add an associate technical designer to our team to act as a conduit between our designers and production team.
Role Summary
We are seeking a technically skilled, detail-oriented Technical Designer to join our product development team. In this role you will take creative design concepts and translate them into production-ready garments, ensuring proper fit, construction, and quality across all sizes and collections. You will work closely with designers, pattern makers, sourcing, and factories to deliver products that meet our production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate design sketches and ideas into detailed technical flats, spec sheets, and tech packs
- Develop Points of Measurement (POMs), graded specifications, tolerance thresholds
- Evaluate prototypes and work through sample rounds, assisting the Director of Production making adjustments
- Liaise with pattern makers, sample makers, and factories to clarify construction details
- Perform quality control checks on samples, first production run, and final goods
- Identify and troubleshoot fit, construction, and performance issues proactively
- Ensure consistency and fit standards across multiple styles and categories
- Maintain version control, update tech pack revisions, and communicate changes to stakeholders
- Visit factories or production sites (domestic / international) assisting in production workflow
- Stay up to date with industry innovations, construction methods, fabrics, trims, and tools
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, Apparel / Technical Design, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience: 1-3 in apparel technical design, product development, or related field
- Language: Must speak English and Spanish (conversational or fluent)
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with CAD / techno sketch / flat drawing software (Adobe Illustrator)
- Familiar with PLM / product development tools is a plus
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, grading, and sewing techniques
- Ability to read / interpret / write spec sheets, tech packs, BOMs
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication skills—able to convey technical details to designers, factories, etc.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to manage multiple parallel projects under tight deadlines
- Team player, collaborative, open to feedback
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness / ability to travel (local factory visits)
- A compelling portfolio or work samples (tech packs, flats, spec sheets, fit adjustments)
- Experience working with overseas factories / supply chain
