Auto Mobility is a non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) provider serving all five boroughs of New York City. Our operation spans direct service delivery, trip brokering, and partnerships with managed care organizations and transportation networks.
Job Description:
We are looking for a Technical Dispatch Specialist who does more than move trips around on a screen. The right candidate understands how routing algorithms work, has hands-on experience implementing and operating advanced dispatch platforms, and knows the unique demands of NEMT operations including trip brokering and building a driver base from the ground up. You will be the nerve center of our daily operations: coordinating drivers, brokering and assigning trips, optimizing routes in real time, recruiting drivers to strengthen our fleet, and ensuring every rider arrives safely and on schedule.
Dispatch & Routing Technology
- Operate and optimize advanced routing/dispatch platforms (e.g., Autofleet, Spare, or similar algorithmic routing software).
- Support customers via phone and by having a good on time percentage.
- Interpret and adjust route plans to account for real-world variables such as traffic, vehicle breakdowns, rider no-shows, and last-minute trip additions
- Analyze platform data and KPI dashboards to identify inefficiencies and improve on-time performance
Systems Implementation & Technical Development
- Lead or support the implementation, configuration, and rollout of new dispatch and routing systems
- Collaborate with software vendors and internal stakeholders to customize platform settings, workflows, and integrations
- Write scripts, build automations, or develop lightweight tools to streamline dispatch workflows (experience with Python, SQL, Excel macros/VBA, or API integrations is a plus)
- Troubleshoot technical issues with dispatch platforms and serve as the go-to resource for system-related questions
Trip Brokering & Coordination
- Broker, assign, and manage trip requests across internal fleet and external provider networks
- Evaluate incoming trip volume and strategically distribute work between in-house drivers and subcontracted carriers to maximize efficiency and margin
- Negotiate and coordinate with third-party transportation providers to fill capacity gaps and meet service commitments
- Maintain relationships with brokers, managed care organizations (MCOs), and transportation network companies (TNCs)
Driver Recruitment & Base Building
- Actively recruit, screen, and onboard new drivers to grow and maintain the fleet’s driver base
- Source driver candidates through outreach, referrals, job boards, and community networks
- Train new drivers on operational procedures, company protocols, technology platforms, and service expectations
- Build and retain a reliable roster of drivers to ensure consistent coverage across all service areas
Daily Operations
- Receive, review, and distribute daily trip manifests and schedules
- Coordinate real-time driver assignments and vehicle deployment across all five boroughs
- Monitor GPS tracking, driver status, and trip progress throughout each shift
- Communicate with command centers, clients, and drivers to manage ETAs and ensure on-time arrivals
Compliance & Reporting
- Complete and submit incident reports for no-shows, accidents, and service disruptions within 48 hours
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of trips, driver activity, vehicle status, and brokered trip documentation
- Achieve and sustain designated KPI targets for on-time performance, trip completion, and customer satisfaction
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on dispatch experience in NEMT, paratransit, or transportation/logistics
- Demonstrated experience with algorithm-based routing and dispatch platforms (Autofleet, Via, RouteMatch, TripSpark, CTS Software, or comparable systems)
- Experience implementing or rolling out new dispatch/routing systems from setup through go-live
- Strong understanding of how routing algorithms work—including dynamic routing, ETAs, vehicle assignment logic, and optimization parameters
- Experience with trip brokering, including assigning trips to subcontractors, managing provider networks, and balancing internal vs. external capacity
- Proven track record of recruiting and onboarding drivers to build or expand a transportation base
- Some coding, scripting, or technical automation experience (Python, SQL, VBA, Google Apps Script, API usage, or similar)—enough to build tools and solve problems, not just use them
- Advanced computer proficiency: MS Office (Word, Excel), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms)
- Ability to multitask and make quick decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Must be able to work on-site at our Long Island City location (this is not a remote position)
- Must be able to work with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with NEMT brokers, Medicaid managed care organizations, or transportation network companies
- Familiarity with NEMT compliance requirements, Medicaid transportation regulations, and reporting standards
- Experience analyzing dispatch and brokerage data to improve fleet efficiency and profitability
- Knowledge of NYC geography across all five boroughs
- Background in building or managing a network of subcontracted transportation providers
- Experience with API integrations, webhook configurations, or building custom reporting dashboards
