Technical Engineer

Job Summary: Responsible for providing advanced structural engineering expertise for building projects from concept to completion, ensuring structural integrity, compliance with applicable codes, and optimization of design for constructability, cost efficiency, and safety. Works closely with design consultants, site execution teams, and subcontractors to resolve structural issues, review shop drawings, perform site inspections, and ensure that construction activities align with approved structural designs and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and verify structural design drawings from consultants to ensure compliance with project specifications, local authority regulations, and constructability requirements.
• Conduct detailed structural analysis and recheck load calculations for foundations, slabs, columns, beams, shear walls, and other structural elements as needed.
• Prepare or review shop drawings, bar bending schedules, and connection details ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compatibility with architectural and MEP requirements.
• Evaluate and approve material submittals for structural works, including concrete mix designs, steel reinforcement specifications, and post-tensioning systems.
• Perform site inspections of formwork, reinforcement, embedded items, and post-tension ducts before concrete pouring to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Review and validate method statements for structural works including concreting, reinforcement fixing, formwork erection, post-tensioning, and structural steel erection.
• Identify and resolve site-related structural issues by providing technical solutions and revised details in coordination with consultants and the project team.
• Monitor construction sequencing to ensure structural stability at all stages, particularly in high-rise or complex structures, including temporary supports, shoring, and de-shuttering timings.
• Coordinate closely with architects and MEP engineers to resolve clashes between structural and other building systems, providing modifications without compromising structural performance.
• Assess value engineering proposals for cost savings without compromising structural safety, durability, or lifespan.
• Ensure that as-built structural drawings are accurately prepared and submitted for final documentation.
• Liaise with local authorities (Dubai Municipality, Trakhees, etc.) for design approvals, inspections, and compliance certifications.
• Verify that the structural works meet quality control standards by coordinating with QA/QC engineers for testing and inspection schedules (e.g., slump tests, cube tests, rebar testing).
• Provide technical input for temporary works designs such as scaffolding, shoring, formwork, and crane bases, ensuring safety and compliance with standards.
• Monitor and record structural progress against project timelines, reporting delays or deviations to the Project Manager.
• Participate in technical meetings with consultants, clients, and subcontractors to resolve design-related issues and finalize decisions.
• Conduct risk assessments related to structural elements, recommending preventive measures to avoid structural failures or delays.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 5 or more years of relevant structural engineering experience in high-rise and complex building projects within the UAE.
• Must be well-versed in UAE/local municipality regulations, Dubai Building Code, ACI, BS, and Eurocodes.
• Strong proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAFE, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and Revit Structure.
