Skyrocket Education Services specializes in learning for youth and educators, and we’re dedicated to supporting diverse and underserved communities.
We provide the support schools need to improve student outcomes, enhance instruction, and strengthen operations. Our team specializes in three key areas: Student Services, Curriculum, and Consulting.
The Technology Team Lead provides strategic and hands-on leadership for the development and continuous improvement of Skyrocket's digital curriculum platform: Launch Your Learning Applications (LYLA).
This role oversees a team of developers, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and secure technology solutions that support instructional goals and user experience. This position collaborates cross-functionally with curriculum, product, and operations teams to align technical development with educational priorities and business objectives. This position drives innovation, establishes development standards, and ensures timely delivery of platform enhancements and new features.
This role is primarily REMOTE with a home office. It will require 20+ days minimum per year for in-person professional development and company events, located in Pasadena, CA. Leadership meetings may be scheduled as well for planning as well as team meetings.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of software developers, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
Provide vision and oversee the architecture, development, testing, and deployment of the digital curriculum platform- collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure direction of the platform
Establish and enforce coding standards, development processes, and best practices
Collaborate with product, curriculum, and leadership teams to translate educational needs into technical solutions
Manage projects including timelines, sprint planning, and resource allocation
Ensure platform performance, scalability, security, and reliability
Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance and problem-solving support
Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies to inform platform innovation
Troubleshoot complex technical issues and oversee resolution
Lead project with contractors including all communication and accountability measures
Maintains team and project budgets
Maintain documentation for systems architecture, processes, and technical decisions
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks relevant to web-based platforms
Understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and scalable system design
Knowledge of data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance standards (especially related to education, e.g., FERPA)
Ability to translate business and instructional needs into technical requirements
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical
Analytical thinking and advanced problem-solving ability
Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
2+ years of experience leading or managing development teams
Experience working in edtech or on digital learning platforms preferred
Experience building and maintaining scalable, user-centered web applications
Demonstrated experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) preferred
