Telepsychiatry Psychiatrist - LPS Law Conservatorships

Schedule: Full time or Part time. Weekly virtual court appearance required.
Location: 100 percent remote. No in-person work.
Population: Adults under LPS holds and conservatorships

About the role

Provide psychiatric evaluations, follow ups, and court testimony for adults receiving care under the Lanterman Petris Short Act and related conservatorship statutes. All clinical work and court appearances are performed remotely.

What you will do

• Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations via secure telehealth.
• Provide medication management follow ups at clinically appropriate intervals.
• Formulate diagnoses and treatment plans that align with LPS requirements.
• Coordinate with hospitals, county agencies, public guardians, and legal counsel.
• Prepare affidavits, declarations, and timely clinical documentation for hearings.
• Appear virtually in court once per week to provide testimony and updates.
• Order and review labs when indicated.
• Use the EHR for same day notes, orders, and communications.
• Follow HIPAA, state law, and program policies for involuntary treatment and conservatorship care.

Required qualifications

• MD or DO in Psychiatry.
• Active, unrestricted California medical license.
• DEA registration, including schedules relevant to practice.
• Two or more years treating adults in acute or subacute settings, inpatient or community.
• Proficiency with telehealth platforms, remote workflows, and concise documentation.
• Clear, direct communication in clinical and legal settings.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience with LPS law, 5150 and 5250 processes, Riese hearings, and LPS conservatorships.
• Prior experience providing virtual court testimony.
• Fluency in another language, Spanish preferred.
• Familiarity with measurement based care and brief supportive interventions.

Work structure and volume

• All patient care and court appearances are remote.
• Mix of new evaluations and follow ups.
• Weekly virtual court block, schedule coordinated with the county and court calendar.
• Protected documentation time.

Technology and support

• Clinic provides HIPAA compliant telehealth platform and EHR.
• Secure messaging and care coordination with social work and nursing teams.
• IT onboarding and remote support.

Compensation and benefits

• Competitive rate commensurate with experience.
• We will provide malpractice coverage for the provider. It will be an occurance based plan.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $220.00 - $250.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 30 per week
