Job Summary:

The Test Engineer contributes to the development and execution of automated system testing within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role completes the majority of assigned tasks with limited supervision and begins making meaningful contributions to test design, process improvement, and debugging efforts. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI), develops and refines Python-based test scripts, and helps optimize the automated test environment for scalability and efficiency.

The Test Engineering team plays a vital role in the manufacturing process by ensuring server and system-level products meet performance, quality, and reliability standards before packaging. Positioned between assembly and final shipment, the team develops and executes testing strategies based on customer Manufacturing Test Requirement Documents or custom validation scripts. Their responsibilities span functional testing, failure analysis, infrastructure maintenance, and continuous yield improvement. The team collaborates closely with internal departments and global R&D teams to support both high-volume production and new product introduction (NPI).

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design, modify, and maintain automated test scripts—primarily in Python—to validate server hardware, firmware, and system-level functions.
  • Complete ~80% of assigned test engineering tasks independently, seeking guidance for complex or novel challenges.
  • Identify gaps in test coverage and propose solutions to improve product validation scope and accuracy.
  • Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) test readiness by collaborating with internal teams on test strategy and execution.
  • Execute tests and analyze results to identify root causes of failures; distinguish between software, infrastructure, and hardware issues.
  • Support ongoing test automation improvement efforts, including modularization and scalability enhancements.
  • Participate in cross-functional debugging efforts by collecting logs, reviewing test behavior, and assisting with failure analysis.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation for scripts, test execution, and issue tracking.
  • Collaborate with global test development and QA teams to implement feedback and improve test reliability.

Required Skills/Abilities: (Example of skills set)

  • Proficient in Python scripting with the ability to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing code.
  • Working knowledge of Linux environments, test automation principles, and test planning.
  • Familiarity with PXE boot, server firmware, and client/server testing methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret logs and identify basic failure patterns.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills for test tracking and reporting.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating across departments.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 1–4 years of relevant experience in test engineering, automation development, or system validation in a production or lab environment.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and automated test infrastructure preferred.

Physical Requirements: (Example of requirement)

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to access and navigate various departments within the organization’s facilities
