Test Lead Software-Hardware

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Test Lead to oversee and execute testing activities for both software and hardware implementations. The role will cover functional, non-functional, compliance and security testing aspects, ensuring that solutions meet the highest quality standards. In addition to managing the testing process and performing hands-on testing, the Test Lead will be responsible for leveraging AI-based testing tools to improve efficiency and coverage, and investigating innovative AI solutions that could be adopted for future projects across the organisation. This role works closely with Development, Hardware, Systems, Architecture, and Security teams to ensure robust delivery while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technology innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Test Management & Leadership

Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of end-to-end testing activities across multiple projects.

• Define and maintain test strategies, plans, and schedules for functional, non functional, and security testing.

• Oversee defect management, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication of issues.

• Manage test environments, tools, and data requirements in collaboration with the systems team.

• Mentor and guide junior testers, fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Hands-On Testing

• Perform test case design, execution, and validation for software and hardware solutions.

• Conduct functional, regression, integration, performance, and security testing.

• Use automated, manual, and AI-assisted testing techniques to improve speed, accuracy, and coverage.

• Create and maintain clear and comprehensive test documentation.

• Plan, execute, and document compliance testing to ensure systems meet relevant regulatory, industry, and internal standards.

AI in Testing & Innovation

• Evaluate and implement AI-powered testing tools for areas such as test case generation, test optimisation, defect prediction, and root cause analysis.

• Work with R&D and Architecture teams to assess the feasibility of AI solutions in broader software and hardware quality assurance.

• Pilot AI-driven quality initiatives, monitor results, and recommend adoption strategies.

• Keep abreast of emerging AI trends in testing and provide recommendations for their application within the company.

Collaboration & Reporting

• Work closely with hardware/software development, product, and security teams to ensure testing is aligned with business requirements.

• Participate in project reviews, providing input on quality risks and mitigation strategies.

• Produce regular progress reports, test summaries, and quality metrics for stakeholders.

Key Skills and Experience

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and best practices (manual, automated, and AI-assisted).

• Experience in hardware testing, including integration with software systems.

• Experience of both functional and non-functional testing

• Understanding of performance, load, and scalability testing techniques.

• Proficiency in defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, TestRail).

• Familiarity with security testing concepts, tools, and frameworks (e.g., OWASP).

• Ability to design and execute automated and AI-driven test scripts using industry-standard frameworks.

• Experience with AI-enabled QA tools or willingness to quickly learn and adopt them.

• Knowledge of API testing tools (e.g., Postman, SoapUI) and data validation methods.

• Understanding of compliance testing principles, including validation against regulatory or industry standards.

Experience

• 5+ years as a Test Lead or Senior Tester in complex software/hardware environments.

• Proven experience of managing a small test team

• Experience of the implementation new technologies and methodologies.

• Previous experience in Agile and/or hybrid delivery environments.

• Experience in compliance testing is desirable, particularly within regulated or standards-driven environments.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• A Master’s degree is a plus.

• ISTQB Advanced Test Manager or equivalent certification preferred. Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications
