Job Summary
Join our dedicated team as a Correctional Officer with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department at one of our five youth secure facilities across Texas, where your role is vital in maintaining safety, security, and order within juvenile correctional facilities. You will oversee the daily activities of youth residents, enforce facility rules, and ensure a secure environment for staff and youth alike. Your proactive approach and commitment to safety will help foster positive behavioral development while upholding the highest standards of security and discipline.

12 hours shifts, every other weekend off and lots of overtime!

Duties

• Monitor youth residents, ensuring compliance with facility rules and identifying any suspicious or disruptive behavior.
• Conduct regular security checks, including visual inspections of living areas, fences, and common spaces to maintain facility integrity.
• Respond promptly to emergencies by implementing conflict management protocols, administering first aid or CPR when necessary, and coordinating with law enforcement or emergency responders.
• Write detailed incident reports, shift logs, and documentation related to security breaches, behavioral issues, or safety concerns.
• Enforce facility policies and procedures through active supervision, conflict resolution, and appropriate disciplinary actions.
• Assist in training new staff on security procedures, emergency response plans, and report writing standards to ensure consistency across shifts.

Experience

• Prior experience in law enforcement, military service, security operations, or a juvenile correctional environment is highly desirable; however, no experience is required.
• Demonstrated ability to manage conflict effectively while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
• Knowledge of first aid procedures, CPR certification, and conflict management techniques is preferred but not required. We provide training.
• Strong report writing skills with attention to detail for documenting incidents accurately.
• Experience working with youth populations or in environments requiring strict adherence to safety protocols is a plus.
