🎯 Job Purpose

To lead and coordinate the technical review of TG (Turbine Generator) Island layout and structural design submitted by the EPC contractor, ensuring optimized plant layout, safe and reliable foundation design for turbine-generator equipment, and compliance with Owner’s technical and contractual requirements.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

A. TG Island Layout Engineering Oversight

  • Review and comment on general arrangement (GA) drawings and 3D models of the TG Hall and Turbine Island.
  • Validate equipment placement for:
  • Steam turbine, generator, condenser
  • Feedwater heaters, BFPs, drive turbines
  • Oil systems, HVAC, piping, cable trays
  • Ensure layout supports operational accessibility, maintainability, and worker safety (e.g., platforms, clearances, escape routes).
  • Coordinate inter-disciplinary layout reviews (mechanical, civil, electrical, piping) to resolve spatial conflicts.
  • Lead or participate in 3D model reviews using Navisworks, BIM platforms, or equivalent tools.

B. TG Structural & Foundation Design Oversight

  • Review design and adequacy of Turbine Generator foundations , including:
  • Dynamic and static load calculations
  • Natural frequency and vibration criteria
  • Equipment-specific stiffness and rigidity requirements
  • Structural isolation and embedded items
  • Thermal growth and alignment considerations
  • Review TG deck structural design (concrete/steel) for supporting critical rotating equipment.
  • Ensure interface compatibility between TG foundation, condenser foundation, and adjacent structures.
  • Verify adequacy of anchor bolt layouts, baseplate supports and lifting/lowering strategies during erection or overhaul.
  • Review support structures for auxiliaries like oil systems and piping racks.
  • Ensure all structural elements comply with relevant design codes (IS, AISC, ASCE, Eurocodes) and Owner’s design guidelines.

C. Interface Management & Execution Support

  • Coordinate with EPC’s civil and structural team for technical validation and timely document approvals.
  • Track design changes, non-conformities, and layout-related open points.
  • Support site teams in resolving layout and structural issues during construction and equipment erection.
  • Provide guidance on turbine-generator alignment strategies and grouting requirements.

🎓 Required Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering
  • 12–15+ years of experience in turbine-generator island layout and foundation engineering
  • Background in Owner’s Engineer or EPC environment for large thermal power plants
  • Hands-on experience in foundation design review of steam turbines and large generators

📘 Preferred Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, STAAD.Pro, and BIM tools
  • Strong understanding of dynamic loads, rotor-bearing behavior, and alignment-sensitive foundations
  • Familiarity with OEM foundation requirements (e.g., GE, Siemens, MHPS, BHEL)
  • Knowledge of constructability and erection challenges of heavy TG equipment

💡 Competencies

  • Analytical and detail-oriented mindset for layout and structural review
  • Effective cross-functional coordination and documentation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication for interfacing with EPC/OEM and internal stakeholders
  • Leadership in technical review meetings and closure of technical queries
