Core duties and responsibilities
- Instruction and lesson planning: Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the curriculum, teach science subjects to secondary students, and use a variety of teaching methods to explain concepts.
- Student assessment and support: Evaluate and grade student work, such as assignments, exams, and projects. Provide individual support to students who need extra help and give constructive feedback.
- Classroom management: Create and maintain a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment.
- Laboratory work: Conduct and supervise classroom and laboratory sessions, ensuring students follow safety rules.
- Professional development: Stay current with scientific developments and innovative teaching methodologies, and participate in professional development programs and training sessions.
- Collaboration: Work with colleagues to enhance the science curriculum and develop interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- School activities: Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and parent-teacher meetings.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field.
- Teaching degree or certification for secondary education.
- Some positions may require a Master's degree or specific subject knowledge (e.g., Biology, Chemistry).
- Proven experience in teaching science at the secondary level is often required.
- Strong command of the subject matter and excellent communication skills are essential.
- Ability to use technology and digital tools in the classroom is often desired.
