The City of Niles is seeking applicants for the positions of Light Department Superintendent and Lineworker.
Light Department Superintendent
This position is accountable for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the City of Niles Light Department. The Superintendent provides direction to the Assistant Superintendent, Foremen and Assistant Foremen; manages, directs and controls all activities, operations, personnel and equipment associated with or pertaining to the Light Department; develops an annual budget and maintains the Niles electrical distribution system within that budget; assists in resolving customer complaint issues; and ensures adherence to the collective bargaining agreement with employees and the union.
The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a valid Class B commercial driver's license, experience with electrical distribution systems and sub stations. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and experience in a supervisory role in a union environment are preferred.

Lineworker
This position is accountable for performing routine duties in handling electric line materials; performing overhead and underground electrical work involved in the construction, maintenance and extension of power lighting and signal systems; and completing related work as required. This position involves the responsibility for willing and efficient performance of assigned tasks. The Lineworker position is under the direct supervision of a Group Leader and the general supervision of the Foreman or designee who may, from time-to-time, review said work, methods of results and give general instructions on assignments.
The successful candidate must have a high School diploma or GED equivalent, Class B commercial driver's license and first aid/CPR Certification. In addition, candidates must have completed a four-year apprenticeship as an Apprentice Lineman with Northwest Lineman College or other accredited facility; must be able to operate all trucks and equipment, including the digger/pole truck, forklift, etc.; must have completed an accredited climbing school; and must be able to pass fit-for-duty physical upon request. Candidates with some vocational training in electricity, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, are preferred. All City of Niles Light Department lineworkers are required to wear fire-retardant clothing while working on energized power lines, which are extremely uncomfortable in warm weather.
