Theatre Scrub Nurse

Role Overview

As a Scrub Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and high-quality perioperative care within CLNQ Deansgate Hospital theatres. Working mainly across cosmetic and plastic surgery, you will also support other consultant-led specialties as required. You will ensure compliance with CQC standards, uphold infection prevention and control measures, and work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, ODPs, and the wider clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Act as the scrub practitioner for a wide range of cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures.
  • Prepare, check and manage all surgical instruments, consumables, implants and required equipment.
  • Assist the surgical team intra-operatively, maintaining strict aseptic technique.
  • Participate in patient check-in and complete the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
  • Support the circulating practitioner role when required.
  • Ensure safe handling, labelling and documentation of surgical specimens.

Governance & Compliance

  • Adhere to all hospital policies, including Infection Prevention & Control, Medicines Management, PPE, Waste Management and Clinical Governance.
  • Participate in key audits.
  • Maintain accurate and timely theatre documentation in line with CQC and organisational standards.
  • Report incidents, near misses and risks through appropriate channels.

Equipment & Environment

  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly checks of theatre equipment (diathermy, suction, lighting, trolleys, emergency equipment, etc.).
  • Maintain safe stock levels and liaise with the Hospital Manager regarding ordering.
  • Assist with theatre setup and turnround between cases.
  • Handle sharps and hazardous materials safely and in accordance with policy.

Professional Standards

  • Maintain current NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Work in accordance with professional standards and CQC Fundamental Standards of Care.
  • Participate in ongoing CPD and mandatory training.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, dignity and privacy always.
  • Act as a professional and positive role model within the team.

Skills & Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Previous scrub experience in a theatre setting.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile fields, instrumentation and surgical safety.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and across different specialties.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care.

Desirable

  • Experience in cosmetic or plastic surgery.
  • Previous experience in private healthcare.
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £36,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
