Responsibilities
- Assist licensed therapists with patient intake, helmet fitting, mounting/dismounting procedures, positioning, and mobility during equine therapy sessions to promote safety and comfort.
- Support patient care activities by monitoring client responses during sessions and promptly reporting concerns or changes to the therapy team.
- Prepare horses and treatment areas by grooming, tacking, leading horses, setting up adaptive equipment, and ensuring arena readiness prior to sessions.
- Help maintain detailed documentation of session activities, patient progress, and relevant observations in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of both clients and horses by following established equine handling procedures and facility safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free barn, arena, and therapy environment in compliance with health and safety standards.
- Assist with scheduling logistics, client flow, and coordination between therapy staff and barn personnel.
- Engage with clients empathetically, fostering confidence, trust, and a positive therapeutic experience
Requirements
- Passion for patient-centered care and interest in equine-assisted therapy.
- Basic knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology to effectively support therapy activities.
- Comfort working around horses; prior equine handling or riding experience preferred.
- Prior hospital, rehabilitation, or clinical experience preferred, particularly in physical therapy, occupational therapy, pediatrics, orthopedics, or post-acute care settings.
- Experience in adaptive or therapeutic riding programs is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with therapists, clients, families, and barn staff.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment that combines clinical care with equestrian operations.
- Physical capability to walk for extended periods, lift and carry equipment (up to 40 lbs), and assist with mounting/dismounting procedures.
