Thermal-Hydraulic Engineer (Nuclear Power Generation Field)

Role Summary / Purpose

This role supports GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) nuclear thermal-hydraulic capabilities, particularly in the development of non-LWR method and analysis.

The position requires a thermal-hydraulic engineer skilled in core and plant thermal-hydraulic analysis and methods development.

Key responsibilities include the development and optimization of thermal-hydraulic technologies and methodologies, including core subchannel flow analyses methods.

The engineer will also contribute to plant services by conducting comprehensive reactor thermal hydraulic studies, including Reactor Air Cooling (RAC) methodologies, analyses, and testing.

This role is part of the Methods, Analysis, & Design team, which develops tools and methods, performs neutronic and thermal-hydraulic analyses, and performs core design for advanced reactors.

All work complies with GVH’s quality plan which includes specific verification practices.

Essential Responsibilities

Work scope includes the following essential responsibilities:

· Responsible for supporting the technical development, accuracy and uncertainty

qualification, testing, verification, regulatory licensing, and maintenance of analytical

methods required for evaluation of steady-state and transient core/fuel performance of nuclear reactors.

· Work within an approved regulatory framework for nuclear software quality assurance for engineering computer programs.

· Prepare, document, and present technical data to internal and external customers.

Contribute to and lead team process improvements to drive speed and simplification.

· Communicate with internal/external users of the methods through support,

documentation, and training.

· Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with NRC rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.

· Effectively communicate and coordinate activities with other team members on engineering/technical issues.

· Develop creative solutions and reduce analysis complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.

· Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.

· Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.

Liaise with customers, in partnership with engineering leadership and Project Management.

· Interface with cross-functional teams and departments necessary to complete assigned system design activities.

· Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GVH engineering procedures. Analysis results are typically provided in an engineering report for use by external customers.

· Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project

timeline and budgeted hours. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work

activities. Identify and manage project execution risk.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, computational methods, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear engineering, or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited college or University

• 5+ years of experience in computational or numerical methods or nuclear thermal-hydraulics modeling

• Prior experience with containment and system thermal-hydraulic codes (GOTHIC or similar)

Additional Desired Characteristics

· Ph.D. in computer science, computational methods, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear

engineering, or a closely related discipline.

· Project based work assignments with time and schedule constraints for work performed.

· Engineer needs to be efficient and effective in assignments to meet scope, quality, schedule and cost bases.

· Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience.

· Working knowledge of nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, code methodology licensing, and related federal regulations.

· Ability to read and interpret drawings to determine component dimensions, detailed

features, interfaces, masses, stiffnesses, etc.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $57.00 - $85.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
