Tiny house Design Camp leader

Tiny House Design Camp Lead / Miniature Worldbuilding Instructor

Ages 8–11 | One-Week Design + Making Camp

Sol Coast Academy is looking for a creative, thoughtful, and hands-on camp leader to guide children through our Tiny House Design Camp.

This one-week camp invites children ages 8–11 to design and build their own tiny house-inspired world. Campers will think like designers, builders, artists, and storytellers as they create a small-scale home and imagine the world around it.

This camp is not just about decorating a dollhouse. It is about helping children think through space, purpose, materials, color, texture, function, and story. Campers will be guided to ask questions like: Who lives here? What does this home need? How does the space feel? What materials make it beautiful, useful, and personal?

Camp runs from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM. The Tiny House Design Camp Lead will guide campers each day through the process of planning, designing, building, decorating, and refining their own miniature home and world.

Role Overview

We are looking for someone who can lead a full week of hands-on design projects and help children bring their ideas to life in a thoughtful, organized, and creative way.

The ideal person has an eye for design, enjoys working with children, and can help campers move from idea to plan to finished project. They should be able to guide kids through creative decision-making without taking over their work.

This person may have experience with interior design, architecture, set design, miniature making, woodworking, crafting, art education, project-based learning, or hands-on children’s programming.

The goal is to help each child create a tiny house that reflects their own imagination, personality, and design choices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead a full week of tiny house-inspired projects for campers ages 8–11
  • Guide children through the process of imagining, planning, designing, and building their own miniature home
  • Help campers think through layout, function, color, materials, textures, furniture, and personal details
  • Support children in creating their own “little world” with intention and creativity
  • Teach simple design concepts such as scale, space, balance, mood, pattern, and purpose
  • Help campers sketch ideas, create mood boards, choose materials, and make design decisions
  • Guide hands-on making activities such as building furniture, decorating rooms, creating textiles, adding natural materials, painting, labeling, and styling
  • Encourage problem-solving, patience, independence, and creative confidence
  • Prepare, organize, and clean up materials each day
  • Support safe and age-appropriate use of tools and materials
  • Create a calm, creative, and encouraging camp environment
  • Help campers stay focused while still allowing space for imagination and personal expression
  • Collaborate with the Sol Coast team to create a cohesive and meaningful week-long experience

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, warm, and comfortable working with children ages 8–11. They should enjoy helping children think deeply, make choices, solve problems, and take pride in their work.

A background in any of the following is a plus:

  • Art education
  • Interior design
  • Architecture or spatial design
  • Set design or prop making
  • Miniature making
  • Dollhouse design
  • Woodworking or handcraft
  • Fiber arts, textiles, or mixed media
  • Montessori or Waldorf-inspired learning
  • Project-based learning
  • Elementary education
  • Camp programming
  • Children’s creative workshops

Education & Experience

A formal degree is not required, but a background in art, design, education, architecture, interior design, child development, or a related field is a plus.

Experience working with children ages 8–11 is strongly preferred.

Experience leading hands-on creative projects, design projects, building projects, or art-based camps is also strongly preferred.

CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who can bring structure, imagination, and warmth to the week.

This camp is about more than making something cute. It is about helping children slow down, think like designers, use their hands, make thoughtful choices, and create a miniature world that feels personal and alive.

The right person will know how to guide without over-directing. They will help campers feel proud of their ideas, confident in their creativity, and excited to bring their tiny house world to life.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
