The Decatur County Tax Commissioner’s Office is responsible for preparing the annual tax digest and managing the billing and collection of ad valorem taxes. These include real property, personal property, motor vehicle, mobile home, intangible, and timber taxes. In addition, our office oversees vehicle registrations and titles.

Position Overview

We are seeking a high-energy individual with a positive attitude, an excellent attendance record, and exceptional communication skills. The Title/Tax Clerk will be responsible for processing tag and title transactions, assisting with property tax collections, and providing courteous and efficient service to the citizens of Decatur County.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process vehicle tag and title transactions.
  • Collect property taxes and issue receipts.
  • Provide customer service in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
  • Assist with other clerical and administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Prior experience in clerical, financial, or government settings preferred but not required.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Starting pay: Minimum $16.00/hour, with rate based on experience.
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Employment type: Full-time.
