Cooling Guard Mechanical is seeking a seasoned, dependable HVAC Mechanic to join our growing team. We are a Local 638 union shop looking for an experienced professional with strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and equipment
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and NYC codes
• Maintain accurate service records and communicate job progress
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, mechanics, and office staff

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of HVAC field experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of:
• HVAC systems
• Boilers
• Chillers
• RTUs
• Split systems
• Refrigeration systems
• Controls and electrical troubleshooting
• EPA Certification preferred
• OSHA certification is a plus
• Valid driver’s license required
• Ability to work independently and manage job sites professionally
• Union experience is a plus

Section 3 / NYCHA Preference

Candidates who qualify as Section 3 workers are strongly encouraged to apply.

A Section 3 worker is someone who:

• Lives in NYCHA public housing, or
• Is a low-income or very low-income resident within the NYC metropolitan area

Preference may be given to qualified Section 3 candidates in connection with NYCHA-related projects and federally funded work opportunities.
