Description: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Branch Supervisor of the Touchet Library is responsible for efficient operation of the branch library and management of the facility; trains and supervises 1 library staff member; as a member of the management team, provides input in the development of library policies and procedures; provides assistance to patrons; writes monthly reports for the board and director; manages cash handling and some aspects of the budget; oversees and participates in the planning of library programming for children, teens, and the community at large; plans, manages, and executes high-quality after-school programming for elementary-aged children; oversees library publicity and social media; communicates with the Friends of the Library group, and participates in district-wide training opportunities and planning. The Branch Supervisor is the primary liaison between the branch staff and the Executive Director, Administrators, and Cataloging and Technical Services Team. This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Current staffing for the position is 35-40 hours per week; must be available to work Monday-Friday September through May and Tuesday-Saturday June through August.

General Performance Requirements:

● Able to lift moderate weights (up to 35 pounds) at frequent intervals

● Advanced computer skills

  • Competent with Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with basic social media posting practices
  • Confident in learning to navigate new programs, devices, and interfaces
  • Able to conduct internet and catalog searches using boolean functions

● Possession of driver’s license and access to functioning personal vehicle

Expectations and Responsibilities:

● Develop and achieve continuous improvement for branch and district processes and policies

● Motivate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with district staff, supervisors, volunteers, Friends of the Library, other community agencies, library patrons, and the general public

● Manage facilities, including working with vendors and contractors when applicable

● Manage and evaluate branch staff performance, including implementation of performance improvement plans

● Work with the Executive Director and Executive Assistant to hire and train new branch staff if necessary

● Perform efficient and accurate clerical functions:

  • Record-keeping
  • Cash handling
  • Reporting

● Circulation and customer service duties, such as:

  • Cash handling
  • Checking materials in and out
  • Preparing items for circulation
  • Repairing damaged items
  • Answering phones
  • Maintaining email correspondence
  • Directing patrons to materials and services
  • Other clerical and circulation duties as needed

● Provide high quality library assistance to patrons and staff, including:

  • Knowledge and implementation of ALA, ARSL, and WLA standards
  • Knowledge of library classification and organization of materials
  • Planning and execution and provide support for creative, well-planned programs for children, teens, and adults which reflect and advance district goals
  • Oversight and improvement of the effective use of library facilities
  • Assistance with reference and readers advisory
  • General promotion of library services, materials, and perspectives
  • Plan, manage, and execute high-quality after-school programming for elementary-aged children

● Work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness

● Develop and achieve continuous improvement for branch and district processes and policies

● Coordinate with executive staff and any committee assignments to further district goals with a team-oriented approach

● Act in accordance with ALA standards

● Handle multiple tasks with continual interruption while prioritizing patron support

● Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of information

● Manage personal professional growth including continuing education

● Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

● Equivalent relevant experience or bachelor’s degree

● Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language

● Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills

● Proficiency in social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)

● Ability to supervise one part-time employee

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

● MLIS or equivalent

● Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the Spanish language

Compensation:

● $23.56 - $27.31 / hour
