Job Overview
The Towns of Clarkson and Sweden are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Town Assessor to join our municipal team in a shared-services arrangement. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately appraising property values within the community to ensure fair taxation and equitable resource distribution. Your expertise will help maintain transparency, integrity, and efficiency in property assessments, supporting the town’s fiscal health and community development. Responsibilities

• Valuation and assessment of real property in accordance with NYS Real Property Tax Law.
• Preparation and maintenance of annual assessment rolls.
• Administration of exemptions.
• Attendance at Board of Assessment Review hearings.
• Supervision of assessment staff and related duties.
• Utilize advanced assessment software and geographic information systems (GIS) to streamline data collection and analysis.
• Engage with property owners and the public to explain assessment procedures, answer questions, and address concerns professionally.

Requirements

• NYS Assessor certification required (or ability to obtain).
• NYS IAO Membership
• Knowledge of real property appraisal and assessment practices.
• Strong organizational, communication, and public service skills.
• Strong communication skills for engaging with the public, government officials, and colleagues effectively.
• A valid driver’s license for conducting field inspections across various locations within the jurisdiction. This role is essential in supporting our community’s fiscal stability through precise property valuation while fostering trust through transparent communication.
• Municipal assessment experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
