Full-Time | Field Operations

We are seeking an experienced Traffic Control Supervisor to lead field crews in the safe installation, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic control work zones throughout the Charlotte, NC area.

Please do not apply if you do not have direct experience supervising traffic control crews, a clean driving record, or reliable transportation. These are absolute requirements for this position.

Key Responsibilities

∙ Oversee the setup and operation of traffic control devices including signs, cones, barriers, flagging systems, arrow boards, and message boards to direct vehicle and pedestrian flow effectively

∙ Supervise and coordinate traffic control personnel to ensure adherence to safety protocols, NCDOT standards, and project schedules

∙ Develop and implement traffic management plans in accordance with local regulations, MUTCD standards, and project requirements

∙ Conduct regular quality control inspections of traffic control setups to guarantee compliance with safety standards; formally document any deficiencies or non-compliance issues

∙ Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, subcontractors, and NCDOT officials to facilitate smooth site access and minimize disruptions

∙ Monitor construction site activities related to traffic management, identifying potential hazards or inefficiencies early and adapting to last-minute changes in site conditions

∙ Manage crew scheduling and daily staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage across all active job sites

∙ Handle personnel issues in the field promptly and professionally, escalating to management when appropriate

∙ Conduct pre-shift safety briefings and toolbox talks; enforce all safety policies and PPE requirements on-site

∙ Maintain detailed records of traffic control activities, inspections, incidents, personnel schedules, and daily shift logs for accountability and reporting purposes

∙ Maintain accurate inventory of all traffic control devices and equipment

∙ Ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained, inspected, and operated safely

∙ Respond to emergency or after-hours calls as required

∙ ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification — Required

∙ ATSSA Traffic Control Installer (TCI) Certification — Required

∙ ATSSA Flagger Certification — Required

∙ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record — MVR check required; applicants with violations need not apply

∙ Reliable personal transportation to report to job sites and yard locations as scheduled

∙ High school diploma or GED required

∙ Proven experience supervising traffic control or construction site crews with a focus on traffic control operations — this is non-negotiable

∙ Demonstrated ability to manage crew schedules and handle personnel matters professionally

∙ Strong knowledge of traffic control quality inspection processes and safety protocols

∙ Solid working knowledge of NCDOT standards and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

∙ Ability to interpret technical plans, diagrams, and traffic management plans accurately

∙ Familiarity with two-way radios and field communication devices

∙ Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage teams effectively under tight deadlines

∙ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

∙ Ability to wear and enforce required PPE at all times including hard hat, safety vest, and appropriate footwear

∙ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

∙ Experience working on NCDOT, municipal, or highway construction projects

∙ Familiarity with construction estimating and project management processes

∙ Electrical experience related to signage or lighting — a plus

∙ First Aid / CPR certification

∙ Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

∙ CDL (Class A or B) a plus
