Our team works closely with contractors, municipalities, and project managers to deliver safe, reliable traffic control services. Southpointe Energy Resource Group is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to support our growing special projects division in the Columbus, Ohio area. This position will play a key role in developing and overseeing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans and traffic control solutions for utility, infrastructure, and residential construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working with gas and water utility projects, residential roadway work, traffic signal systems, pavement marking design, and work zone traffic control. This is a hands-on position that will require collaboration with field personnel, project managers, municipalities, and utility clients.

Must be able to pass a drug screen prior to and randomly throughout employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and modify Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans and traffic control drawings.
  • Design traffic control layouts for utility construction, gas distribution, waterline, and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, contractors, and utility companies to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Provide traffic engineering support for residential and non-highway projects.
  • Assist with traffic signal evaluations, modifications, and design recommendations.
  • Develop pavement marking and line painting plans.
  • Support field operations and provide guidance regarding traffic control implementation.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate traffic conditions and project requirements.
  • Ensure all traffic control plans comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Prior experience creating and implementing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.
  • Experience specializing in residential and non-highway traffic engineering projects.
  • Experience supporting gas, water, or utility construction projects.
  • Knowledge of traffic signals, traffic light operations, pavement marking, and roadway striping design.
  • Prior flagger experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of MUTCD standards and traffic control best practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Schedule

  • Monday through Saturday
  • Occasional night work required based on project needs

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to provide at least one professional reference that can verify relevant traffic engineering and MOT experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Columbus metropolitan area and surrounding regions as required.
