Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Traffic General Manager to lead and optimize inbound and outbound logistics operations across our U.S. Consolidation/Mixing Centers.

This high-impact role is responsible for managing a team of 10+ logistics and warehousing professionals nationwide, coordinating across multiple time zones, and delivering exceptional customer service to Trader Joe’s.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods into and out of the warehouse. This includes planning, scheduling, and coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, managing relationships with carriers and suppliers, and ensuring that shipments are delivered on time and in good condition to other service centers within the network. The role also handles logistics-related issues, such as lost or damaged goods claims and compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Nationwide Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 10+ logistics professionals located across the United States, ensuring collaboration and performance across multiple time zones.
  • Vendor & Broker Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and logistics brokers. Oversee a large-scale broker network and ensure dedicated carriers maintain capacity for growth.
  • Customer Service for Trader Joe’s: Serve as the primary logistics contact for Trader Joe’s, providing timely communication, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with Logistics and Service Center Managers to drive process improvements and implement best practices across all locations through key analytics and data.
  • Performance Management: Establish and monitor KPIs and metrics, lead quarterly performance reviews, and foster skill development within the team.
  • Transportation Planning: Plan and arrange transportation services to move freight, including carrier selection, rate negotiation, and shipment consolidation for cost efficiency.
  • Shipment Management: Coordinate routing, scheduling, and tracking of shipments to ensure timely delivery through a systematic approach.
  • Communication and Coordination: Act as a liaison between suppliers, carriers, and internal departments such as sales and dispatch.
  • Logistics Optimization: Analyze data to identify areas for improvement, reduce transportation costs, and enhance supply chain efficiency.
  • Problem Resolution: Handle issues such as lost or damaged goods and ensure compliance with transportation laws and regulations.
  • Warehouse and Fleet Supervision: Supervise workers involved in shipping, storage, and maintenance, and ensure the proper condition of warehouses.
  • Financial & Strategic Reporting: Prepare financial and management reports, present industry rate trends, and align logistics operations with business objectives.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards, including OSHA.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in traffic management, focusing on managing inbound/outbound shipments, vendor coordination, damaged goods claims, and team leadership across multiple time zones.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Supply Chain Management); equivalent experience considered.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing and developing diverse teams.
  • Strategic thinker with strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and logistics-specific systems (TMW, WMS, Road Net TMS, Truckmate, PC Miler, Qualcomm GPS, Load Boards, Freight Calculators).
  • Ability to travel as required and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong data analytics skills, self-motivated, with full experience in supply chain management.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in warehouse or service center environments with variable temperatures.
  • Must be able to safely operate around heavy moving equipment in a fast-paced setting.
