Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced environmental or maritime professional to deliver a comprehensive 5-day Principles of Marine Pollution Management course in Dubai, UAE. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in international maritime regulations, ship-source pollution management, and offshore operations, with a proven ability to translate complex legal and technical concepts into practical, actionable training for industry professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver an in-depth 5-day training program on marine pollution management, covering key areas such as international regulations (MARPOL, IMO), ship-source pollution, legal frameworks, and surveillance technologies.
- Develop and utilize a range of training materials, including detailed presentations, real-world case studies of oil spills and pollution incidents, and practical exercises based on industry plans like SOPEP and Garbage Management Plans.
- Facilitate interactive sessions to help participants identify pollution sources, understand the consequences of non-compliance, and review current technologies for prevention and cleanup.
- Guide participants through the analysis of international conventions, legal liabilities, and the application of principles like "Polluter Pays" and "Strict Liability."
- Provide expert insight into topical issues, including the Polar Code, air pollution from shipping, and the decommissioning of offshore platforms.
- Conduct assessments and lead discussions to measure trainees' understanding of how to design and implement efforts to reduce environmental risks.
- Collaborate with the client to ensure the training addresses the specific challenges faced by professionals in oil and gas transportation, maritime operations, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a trainer, instructor, or facilitator in marine pollution management, maritime environmental compliance, or a closely related field.
- Substantial professional background in the maritime industry, offshore oil and gas sector, environmental law, or with a relevant regulatory body (e.g., flag state administration, port state control).
- In-depth knowledge of key international regulations and codes, including MARPOL, the ISM Code, IMO conventions, and UNCLOS.
- Strong understanding of ship-source pollution management, including ballast water, bilge management, and emergency response planning.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a diverse audience of managers, legal professionals, and technical staff.
- Ability to create engaging and interactive training sessions using case studies and practical examples from the industry.
- Based in or able to travel to Dubai for the duration of the 5-day training program.
- Fluency in English is essential.
